Finding help in the game?

RynTynTyny·3/2/2016, 2:15:52 AM·3 votes·471 views

I will try again to post in these forums, sent by Riot Support to ask for help. I struggle to learn anything in the game, and seem to get destroyed in all of my games. I am unsure of what I am supposed to be doing in many ways. How do people get help learning? I am tired of being harassed and reported for being bad at the game.

Any help is appreciated.

Assuming you don't know anything at all in the game.... The first thing you gotta do is pick your champion. There are 6 main categories which each champion fits in and partially fits in: Assassins, Mages, Fighters, Supports, Tanks and Marksmen (but everyone calls marksmen "adc" which stands for attack damage carry).

An assassin is an agile champion that specializes in killing or disabling the enemy carry (someone who "carries" is someone of high value to the team). Assassins are focused on infiltration, deception, and mobility.

Mages are mostly ranged champions who prioritize powerful abilities over basic attacks. Typically mages are characterized by some combination of long-range, area-effect or high-utility spells to get the job done.

Fighters are close range combatants that possess a mix of offensive and defensive capabilities. While they don't have as much utility as a tank or as much damage as an assassin, a fighter's damage will add up over time to make it a major threat.

Supports make plays by enabling their allies through buffs and heals, or by disrupting enemy lines through crowd control. From laning to late game teamfights, supports create advantages and opportunities for their teammates to capitalize on.

Tanks are durable, front-line champions that help lock down enemies and start fights. They're usually found leading the charge, choosing the right times and situations to initiate aggression. Many tanks can also protect their more fragile teammates by stunning or pushing around dangerous foes and limiting their damage potential.

An ADC (Marksman) is a ranged attacker that sacrifices defensive power and utility to focus on dealing strong, continuous damage to individual targets. Typically focused on using their basic attacks more than their abilities, marksmen have the capability to scale and deal out devastating levels of damage in the late phase of any game.

Which one appeals to you the most? Once you've decided, research some champions that fit in that category and find one that you like. Since you're new a cheap one is best for now. Play that champion and only that champion until you get bored of them or want to learn how to play different champions. In my opinion you should be able to learn on your own just by playing again and again or by looking up guides. Don't hesitate to ask for help from your teammates. If you have any questions or want me to explain more then just reply. [slayer-jinx-catface]

Look up builds and strategies of the champs you like or the rolls you prefer. Google is your best friend

Can you explain in some more detail as to what you mean?

Watch LCS vods on youtube. Watch streamers who are good at teaching the theory behind what they do - I prefer Valkrin for this. Focus on last hitting - try to hit a 6-7 cs a minute average at the games end. Play a lot of different roles, and a lot of different champs, so you can learn their cooldowns and item powerspikes. And practice. Practice. Practice.

You guys are assuming i have way more knowledge than I actually have. I seem to be at a level where I need every other word explained. The lingo I hear the community using is too hard to understand.

I have not seen that list before in that manor, that was very helpful. Thank you for that.

I do have issues as I do not see top lane, middle lane, or jungle roles described in the post. I guess plenty of my questions revolve around what I should be doing in each role, or lane. I also do not know how to learn each role as I see no help or definition of what I should be striving for in each game.

I have tried a few "guides" and YouTube videos, but have been easily overwhelmed with the difficulty of understanding even a little of what is said. I even enjoy watching the Professional players compete each weekend, but the announcers talk as though I am a professional already.

I would love to continue to find players like you who are willing to continue to help those of us who struggle with the lack of help in a very complex game.
