Seriously, Atma's

I'm sure chances are this is probably beating a dead horse, but I'm also certain there is a lot of people with me that are feeling a colossal gap in the game where this item is missing.

Honestly since the map rework and item removal top and jungle have been a lot less.. fun, which I hate to admit since they are albeit greatly prettier with the rework and used to be my favourite roles. Now I tend to occupy myself with playing support sona and doing obscene ~~damage ~~ healing even after all her nerfs rework/post-rework. (Seriously she's been nerfed like four times in a row plz stahp)

Jungle might be less fun to me personally since the increased difficulty change, not a gripe mind you but an observance since jungle's presence tended to outweigh other roles and item changes when in a position where you're used to carrying more than one person's worth of weight.

On top or jungle I loved building mallatma's vi/voliburr, these two I see the most stark change by far, I built it frequently as the application was amazing, people often griped about mallet/atma's because of gold efficiency, but tbh getting 2 aa's for your 1 with the combo outweighs what was all too often unaccounted for.

Perhaps the effectiveness of that is what spurred the removal?

Anywho

tl:dr item synergy with items like this FEELS nice, and works nice, and it sucks to see it gone.

"no one bought it"

I dont think items should ever be removed unless balance or another is introduced, personally. But atmas wasnt really.... good. It was unique, though, and had a niche on HP tanks that will never be filled. With the S5 changes, atmas would actually be really good on some champions.

I miss Atma's Sion. It wasn't particularly good or impressive, but the potential for infinite AD (and Health->AD in general) filled a special atrium in my heart.

It was problematic when it was actually good and doing it's job. So then it was nerfed to a point where noone would want to use it EVER. So with that, instead of leaving a dead/problematic item in the game they removed it.

I miss atma's. Not because I built it, but because the unique combination of stats and passives could be something really cool if tuned properly.

But then people would actually have a small reason to build tanky. We cant have that. We have to have massive items that do % hp damage, shred armor, and poo down the throats of even the tankiest builds, but having an item that would allow them to fight back would be op. Lets not be ridiculous

There were 2 problems with Atma

  1. His efficiency relied on building a stat that the item on itself did not offer. Atma to be slot efficient needed that building health was an efficient strategy, and when fratmogs combo was becoming too strong, riot hit hard health itemization, and then health itemization got nerfed more and more and BoTrK was introduced so that building enough health to make Atma viable was not considered convenient anymore for players (the breakeven point was at 4000 health in terms of slot efficiency, and really few champs could build it safely when Atma was removed

  2. Crit chance was a dysfunctional stat with the rest of the itemization A guy that would have needed to built that 4000 health to make Atma viable, is not likely to be a champ that builds further items for damage and crit chance. As a matter of fact, only few bruisers could think about building it (Garen and Gangplank being among these few notable exceptions)

I think that an Atma like item could return some day, but not with Atma stats/ passive functionality. Probably the only offensive stat that could be used by this future "Atma item" could be attack speed in substitution of AD and crit, and it should be studied how to tie the acquisition of that stat to the health stacking (to avoid this item becoming bruisers's favourite), but without having the downsides that made previous Atma unviable

bla blah blah

i easily got 60 ad out of it on rammus. thats 20 ad less then infin build full health tank and do 300 ad damage on when not havin build a single AD item except atma's?

4000 health and 1.5% is 60 ad

can you now see why they removed it?

ow fun fact it used to do 4% of max health waaaaay back in the day. no one thought it was OP back then until some warwick main thought it was funny to go full tank and sustain and kill entire teams cuz of that item.

doing 700 damage crits on volibear fun times....

sorry guys but the item was abysmally overpowered and i abused it terribly back then

right now we need it again cuz tanks simply can't do enough damage.

The biggest issue was Atmas was a noob trap. Newer players saw the item and assumed it was a good buy. It was pretty much never a good choice. If you wanted damage on a bruiser, you wanted Trinity.

Exactly in what season? Because right now build rammus with 4000 hp is extremely stupid since he would become vulnerable to the champs that build BoTRK that he actually counter

I think an item like Atma to give some offensive stats to tank is needed, but the crit- 45/50 Ad combo that was going out in the latest time before the item was removed weren't good enough to be slot efficient, and a lot of tanks scale better with AS than with AD

I'd like having the option for atma's on my Gangplank Support, as another build path for item 3093 i get every game. Shiv is a good pick, but if the situation calls for more armor (like a against a full armor team, atma's could have been an option.) Crit/Armor/Dmg. I'll admit i miss it a little.

Atma's was a ridiculous item because it went counter to what building tank is supposed to do: sacrifice damage for survivability.

When patch 4.11 came out the jungle golem item gave %hp boost. I created this xin zhao build, with surprisingly decent results. http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=4656202 Picture here http://i.imgur.com/bhWPHm8.png********

Bring back Atmas!!!

1 Wing2 votes

It was a trap item. It would be better to buy, say, IE to deal more damage.

The problem is that the enemy team should respond to a high health tank by building %hp damage. Trying to double down on your health by building a bit of damage instead of some armor, results in you getting punched in the face harder. The damage from Atmas just wasn't as good as the other options available.

AHeroNamedHawke2 votes

They couldve slightly tuned the stats and made it a good item

But fuck that noise, we already have barely an itemization choices so lets remove more

If the Crit chance were the same gold worth of MR or armor it would have been SO much better. You know who stacked health and might get use out of the crit chance? Garen. Thats literally it.

And it could be ridiculously cost efficient. It was cost efficient purely by base stats by level 13 on EVERY CHAMP and it really should have been built as a 4-6th item.

I really miss it. My Garen Garen will never be the same item 3070

There just needs to be another Armor AND AD item. There's AP and MR, AP and Armor, AD and MR, Health and AD. When playing someone who wants a little armor and ad against a full AD team, it would be nice to have that option. Diversity, amirite?

Riot has said multiple times that they do not want an armor+AD item. The only reason Abyssal Scepter is allowed to exist is due to the lack of MR options for casters.

I could see it return on a champions passive "bonus hp->ad conversion".

Could also make an interesting mastery in the defensive/utility tree. "Basic attacks deal %bonus HP as additional physical damage"

I worded it this way so that it's more of an on-hit effect. Thus doesn't stack with lifesteal or crit or abilities. Which could allow it to be strong.

I almost had 5K life as Sion in a game recently.

You know what would have been nice? Atma's Impaler.

I could have gone Inf. Edge. But the ADC was shredding me so i needed armour, but I needed damage to force that ADC out of the fight. I was stuck with a lose-lose situation, so I bought a thornmail. Because... Well.. I already had a Randuins, I had the Tabi, I needed the Spirits so their APC wouldn't melt me in a quarter-second. Black cleaver is usually all I get for offence as I can support my team by shredding the armour off their tanks so my AD could tear through them.

Then I bought a Frozen Mallet because a grandma could outrun Sion's passive.

I liked Atma's. It was a good Armor-AD, Damage-Defense item. Even the Crit chance was pretty useful if I was playing the likes of Jax or Irelia because I would already have TriForce.

That was the core problem. When Atma was strong it was abused by bruisers in combo with the other health items, instead of being only used by tanks, hence they overnerfed it

ABlueQuaker1 votes

To be fair, though, this is like Season 1-Season 2 we're talking about here. It really wouldn't be an issue in the game's current state if it was brought back an buffed into viability - even if it then has to be re-tuned if it's too strong. I mean, Zhonya's exists for AP Champions as a AP-Armor item - why can't there be an AD-Armor item that's viable?

The Passive needs to be more efficient - 3000 HP ---> 60 AD (That would match the base AD Stat from Maw of Malmortius) Crit Chance should be 25% to match the likes of IE and PD so it synergises better with Attack Speed Bruisers who rely on TriForce in their build path. 45 Armor would be plenty.

Build Path: Chain Vest + Brawler's Gloves (400g) + Avarice Blade (800g) + Chain Vest (750g) + Combine Cost (550g)

Ale non è male1 votes

Nah, They will never overload so much stats in an item, especially with the kind of numbers you put on it,m as Atma does not have to become a bruiser item again (and any bruiser can get to 3000 HP with their actual itemization paths when they yet deal tons of damage)

And the true problem is that AD doesn't necessarily benefit tanks, barring few exceptions. Tanks should get an item like Ama, and the item should imho give armor-AS, as often they have abilities that work in synergy with AS.

Something like 45 armor, gaining attack speed equal to 1,5% for every 1000 missing HP (capped at 60%). Then, if the item seems still too weak, you can throw it some extra stat like MS (for example 5% MS) or CDR or some kind of other non damage stat

10k HP Sion wasn't pleased after the removal of atma. Was better than IE with armor.

Atma was also a very gold efficient item, people may forget that. It may be very niche, but it was because games rarely get to the point tanks get to their 5-6 items like atma. Or that they play a champion that just isn't a tank.

If you take into account all of the statistics on Atma's Impaler, you needed 1083 health to make the item gold efficient.

If you take into account only the attack damage from Atma's Impaler, you needed 3833 / 4381/ 4452 health to gain the same attack damage as if you had spent the gold on Long Swords / Pickaxes / B. F. Swords instead.

So beyong 4452hp this item was better than BF sword.
