Essence Reaver Change?

Essence Reaver is a really cool concept item for champions/players who like to spam spells, but it sort of falls short of its purpose as a high-ad offensive lifesteal/mana steal item.

This isn't because the item has anything wrong with it per say, but it builds out of the exact same thing as Bloodthirster. If you're managing your gold well at any point of game, it would make sense to just wait another 300 gold and get 10% more lifesteal. As an adc/marksman/etc the mana and cdr aren't really going to help you once you are into the mid game, which is when it becomes possible to purchase ER.

I suggest that we do one of two things to make this item more accessible to the early game, which is when its effects are most dearly needed.

Option 1: Reduce the purchase cost of ER by 700, but make Forbidden Idol one of the items in its ingredients list.

This would make the overall cost of the item the same, while encouraging adc's to purchase something other than lifesteal/damage on their first back, making spell-casting a more integral part of any adc's early play. The number of options for early game would increase, giving the early game a more-rich set of build paths, simultaneously encouraging people to buy the awesome item, Essence Reaver.

Option 2: Reduce the purchase cost of ER by 800, but make a new item of the same cost and add that to its ingredients list.

New Item: Essence Scythe +10 AD +8% CDR

Unique passive: Reave - Your basic attacks restore mana equal to between 2% and 8% of the physical damage dealt, based on your missing mana.

This is a similar solution to option 1. Then we would name the passive of ER the same thing. This item essentially becomes a sibling to Vampiric Scepter, but instead it deals with mana/casting. This option has the advantage of forcing players to use the item parts the same way they would an ER, like how Tiamat works as a smaller version of RH.

Thank you for reading my post about the problems I find in Essence Reaver, see you on the rift! PS: Jinx getting a kill: Jinx summoner 4 summoner 6 summoner 3

Edit: Grammar and missing info

My favourite solution:

item 3114 +item 1037 +225g=Essence Scythe(1800g) ES+item 1037+item 1053+5g = item 3508

It´ll be a little more expensive, but it´ll have some passive manareg aswell and maybe a tiny bit more lifesteal. And it´ll fit it´s nice as manasustain-item in lane without offering lifesteal on top early on to make it abusive in early laning.

First off I want to state that I love the concept of ER. I agree it needs tuned and buffed, however personally I would prefer to keep MP/5 items out of the realm of AD and leave them for the AP casters. Part of the beauty of ER is that it is an elegant means of encouraging AD casters to do their job, by only giving you the benefits while you are actively damaging things, rather than rewarding overly passive play. As I stated earlier however I do believe it requires help.

So I propose treating it similar to hydra, and change its recipe so that it builds out of a vamp scepter and another item that provides AD, manasteal and CDR, in the same way that tiamat provides the AOE and active to hydra. This would give AD casters the laning tool ER was originally intended to be, that can then turn into the ER as a gold efficient mid to late game item.

What if you have a nice Support that buys item 3050 Zeke's Herald for you? Still go for BT or pick up the ER?

BRING BACK OP item 3072 not this current crap we have. It is semi balanced, but now its like RUSH IE if not you are doomed. If you rush bt its kinda like ehhhh you are ok but not like oh man big dog on the rift watch out for him/her. No i don't mean dog like Nasus

I support the latter Essence Scythe.

Because for me, the biggest problem with Essence Reaver as of now is that it's purpose, namely, to help ADCasters with their mana worries, is far too delayed in comparison to, say Manamune, which builds off a powerful Mana item. And really, this game could use more item variety anyways.

Imo the lifesteal needs to be raised to around 18%

8% cdr? such a wierd number. The edit I would do is item 1053 +item 1037 +item 1037 + 650g and add a passive on-hit-effect that does bonus damage that scales with your ad and does more damage the more mana you are missing and gives you mana equal to the damage dealt (from the passive only, not the whole attack). This keeps the cost the same, gives it its own build identity/path, and gives it a slight damage edge over its more defensive cousin item 3072 but not enough to put it over the top of item 3031 damage wise.
