Or is there better duelist out there

Dueling is kind of weird, to be honest. It's mostly about what champions counter eachother. For example: I feel like Fiora would be a better duelist against more champions, while also having a stonger early game then Jax. Except Ironically, Jax is a great counter to Fiora, because Counter Strike negates all of Fiora's damage. Especially her ult.

I don't feel like there can be a best Duelist so much as there would be a 'triumvirate' or something of "these three champions counter the most champions in 1v1s, but none of these three can be the best because they counter eachother."

basically like pokemon grass beats water, water beats fire, and fire beats grass

Pretty much yeah. If anyone talks about dueling, they always compared x character to Jax, more or less comfirming his as the guy to beat.

Technically I'd say Veigar with 9999 ap though.

He's probably one of the Best Late Game Duelist. Their might be other duelists who are better Early/mid game.

Irelia

Her trading is made even more ridiculous by her E's stun; she will almost never lose to someone more fed than her in a 1v1 mid game, if she plays smart, and only loses to a select few in the late game (depending on fed she is). Also, her early game is much better.

Jax is a much better split pusher, though.

I've out-dueled Irelia as Olaf, and I was behind.

Olaf is actually a really strong duelist at all stages of the game, but that's literally all he is good at.

Jax is really strong late game from what I hear, but I haven't seen him enough to really verify that personally.

Nasus is of course very strong in the late game 1v1.

Shen is a lot stronger than most would think as a duelist, if you build him for it.

In general, melee carries tend to be among the best duelists. Basically everyone I named except maybe Shen can out-duel Irelia late game.

Mind telling me what build works for Shen to become a duelist? I am trying to start maining him.

For top lane Shen I run Wit's End, Sunfire (first item if you're against an AP top by the way), and a Thornmail (this last one is more situational, but it's very strong against AA-reliant champions, which most of the best duelists are). With Wit's End stealing magic resist from your opponent, the Sunfire, Thornmail, Ki Strike, and Vorpal Blade damage really adds up. Add a spirit visage both for MR (against hybrid damage duelists like Jax, and, well, the presumably AP mid obviously lol, there's more to the game than dueling), and for the passive to heal more from Vorpal Blade.

Those are the items I build most games with Shen. My boots are usually either ninja tabi or merc treads (the former would be even better for dueling guys like Jax, I'd imagine), and last item is typically Warmogs, but there's a lot you can build.

Now, I've never dueled Jax super late game, only late mid game or so (about 12k gold for both of us), so I don't know how my build holds up to late game Jax 1 on 1.

Shen's main weakness as a duelist compared with Trynd or Jax is that he isn't as "sticky", admittedly, so it's possible they may fuck off before you can kill them, like Jax usually did.

Rather than say "the best", it's better to sort them into tiers. there are just far too many variables to consider to truly say who would win, and some of it is random (looking at you, 10% critical strike chance). there's also the rest of the game to consider: If I get to full build a jax knowing that I'm going to fight a trundle and no one else, ever, it'll be item 3153 item 3072 item 3075 item 3035 item 3047 item 3071. Why only one thornmail and no other armor? he'll steal it anyway, and all the AD will pump up my armor AFTER he's done stealing some. Just let him ult first, and he loses. but if there's, well, ANY META SUPPORT around, you'll be screwed fast unless you built differently, in which case trundle wins, except that he also has to consider more than jsut jax, etc.

So the top tier duelists are jax, vayne, trundle, tryndamere, and so on. Any further commenters, feel free to add more. but within that top tier, it's way too case by case to really say.

And lets not forget "The Grand Duelist" herself. Fiora

The "best duelist" thing is just an endless tie betweenTrundle Jax Fiora MasterYi Nasus Irelia Quinn Shyvana UdyrTryndamere (and more) who are all insane duelists against the majority of the champion pool but all have their counters and those they counter.

For example, Nasus can beat a lot of people through Wither, but he'll get creamed by Yi, who is immune to slows. On the other hand, Yi will nearly always lose to a Quinn, because not only does she have blind to negate his damage, but he can interrupt his Meditate with her E. Trundle beats nearly all of the duelists with armor/mr/health steroids because of the way he takes advantage of that. Fiora is something of the opposite, killing any squishy duelists insanely fast. But there could never be one end-all King of Duelists.
