Darius vs Maokai?

So I played a game just now of Maokai vs a Darius. It was a ranked game so I don't expect trolling to be the reason behind my victory but I ended up winning against the Darius Jordan. My question at the time was: How in the hell is a tree beating a big dude with a basketball in this case?

My answer after some thought is (and this is for future players of maokai against a downright darius) Maokai simply does more in the bigger perspective of the game. I had no jungle pressure in fact I was getting a lot of pressure from the enemy yi who was picking up kills left and right. Our game was also highly against us with blue team up 10.6k gold at 31:00 minutes. Now the thought on everyone's mind must be: They threw and yes I agree that they probably did, but by the end of the game I had an unexpected 31.9k dmg done to champions which was much higher than darius' dmg and 7/8/14! Now this might not seem like the best score but in the laning phase I was doing awful with 1/6 but at least double Darius' cs due to my constant focus on farming. By the end of the game I simply seemed to have more presence in teamfights than Darius Jordan as my snares were stopping glass cannons like yi in their tracks and after a series of team fights forced by me in our favor we ended up with a 4.9k gold lead.

Tl:DR: Darius Jordan packs heavy damage in the early game but as was probably noted by many people before his team fight presence is minimal as he has only one reliable form of cc in his pull which requires good positioning which unless you are playing against good players is hard to find. Just farm farm and farm and you should do more in the game if you are playing Maokai into this technically unfavorable matchup. Also poke with saplings.
