Does Placement Actually Always Place You Lower Than Where You Were?

i have been hearing that you will always be placed lower than your rank in season 7 but is that really true?

as you can see, this player has only played 15 games and lost 4 out of the 5 past games, which means he must have been placed higher than silver 5 9LP by the end of his placement. Yet he was bronze 3 last season.

he won 9 out of 10 games. 3 out of those games (and won) were duoed with someone who was silver 3 last season. so I guess the moral of the story is to duo with someone higher MMR than you, especially if you know you can do well in your elo and win games so you don't get undeservingly placed lower than your performance demonstrates?

"Everyone loses MMR in a "soft reset" going into each new season if they placed before. This means that most players will be placed lower than they ended the 2017 Season with. Can you stay at the same Rank or even go up? Yes! but your MMR must've been really good for the Rank you were at, so it's unlikely."
