Thanks for the memories, even though they weren't so great.
Now, I'm sure league is stuff fun for allot of people, but I'm frankly tired of it. It's been a problem for a while now, but I think that it's really been the last two seasons which have just made it clear that riot has made a mistake. They too easily buff when they should nerf, and the powercreep has really taken it's toll. Now, even when playing a tank, unless I'm so far ahead that I'm literally unkillable I die within a matter of about a second to whatever damage the enemy has. Now, maybe you like that kind of pressure, but it simply doesn't feel fun to be killed almost instantly. Riot talks allot about counter play, but frankly balance the game in such a way in which there is little, if any, chance to actually use any of it. Which team wins comes down rarely to skill, and often to who has the most fed person on their team. I want to engage in skill based interactions with my opponent, where we each have a chance of winning and it's due to our decisions, and how well we prepared for the fight, that one of us wins, but such situations only appear at extremely high-level play. I follow a few youtubers which are of a higher level of skill, and I wish I could play as good as them, but as a jungle main I have little hope to carry myself out of bronze because often one lane of mine just feeds so hard that I can't help them no matter how hard I try, and we lose simply because my entire team can't 5v1 the one person who got fed because they kill us before we can react. Today I played a game of league in a vain attempt to have fun. I was at b2 0lp, and so I wanted to win. My top and bot lane fed, my mid got camped, and I got counterjungled by an ivern. We had no way to win, no way to even fight back. The game was over before it began and, sadly, that's been the common game for me lately. Sometimes I get the rare game in which I somehow get fed, but even then it's a tossup to see if I can carry my team or not, and even then it's not too fun, only a chore to try to earn the chance to play with people who are decent, so I can start truly working to improve myself In leaps and bounds rather than a slow crawl I can't even notice because I keep being put with at least one person who looses the entire game for us.
It was today I realized that league isn't a fun experience, it's a cycle of loss with the occasional win. Earlier this season I went on a huge winning spree, pulling myself out of bronze 5 all the way to bronze 2, and I felt like I could interact with my opponents meaningfully. But then something happened. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I felt like suddenly my teams got worse, and even when I started the game well it all kept falling apart. That was a few weeks ago. Every few days I ask myself if I should play league, only to decide that whatever random video on youtube is a better use of my time. League is a trap, one which holds no fun like it once did but has drawn me in nonetheless.
That ends today. From now on I'm uninstalling league of legends.
I will continue to keep myself up to date about the state of league of legends, in hopes that riot might one day realizes that they need to truly change something to make league fun again and if they truly listen to players who are tired of getting placed with teammates who feed so hard they lose the game, who are tired of being killed instantly by the enemy who is so far ahead they are untouchable all because they got one early kill, who are tired of being told about counter play when none is to be had, who can't even see themselves improve or know what to work on because they still get crushed even when they do good, who are trapped in a cycle that hints that you might improve and achieve something only to knock you down.
Now, I have an idea on where this can start. First off: Globally reduce damage. Now, I'm not talking about making everyone a tank, I'm saying that everything should still do a proportional amount of damage (assassins doing far more damage then a tank obviously) but just reduce how much damage is done by everyone. While maybe a Band-Aid fix, it should at least give a starting ground for undoing all the power creep that's taken place. This is by no sense a perfect solution, but it should at least give people some time to react in team fights, to make it where you can actually make use of the counter play within the game, to make it so you can have time to react. Second off: Introduce more ways for the loosing side to come back. Right now, it's too easy to snowball, meaning that the team with the first person to get any sort of lead often has a high chance of winning. Introducing increased gold generation for a team who is behind in kills after a certain point, or making it easier to fight people who are ahead by far would at least try to make a cycle of back and fourth fights, where both teams stay somewhat even throughout the game and can fight each other on even terms.
Even if those things never happen, which they probably won't, I hope that someone out there just reads this and can use it to think of better ideas than this lowly bronze player who blames his team when they feed.
Maybe one day, when league pulls itself out of this grave it's dug itself, I'll be able to re-install league and look forward to my next game but until then, I just hope someone will hear me.
