Player to Player treatment/ELo

So recently I read an article about the new MOBA Heroes of the Storm (a new MOBA coming out by Blizzard) is doing a new thing to punish the toxic summoners/leavers in their game by placing them in a special elo of their very own where they get paired up with other toxic summoners/leavers. What are your thoughts bringing this punishment concept to the fields of justice?

Riot has stated that they want to avoid the "prisoner's island" concept.

Personally I disagree and think it's a great way to deal with toxic players, but that's just my opinion.

Sadly, the 'prisoner island effect' doesn't improve the toxicity. It simples remove the problem to fester in an establishment of its on. The behavior increases in likelihood because of the public norm being toxic. With online opportunities, the person can simply create a new character with the increased behavior outcome probability and continue the vicious cycle. Then it's more work to weed out the duplicate accounts instead of targeting the negative behavior itself.

It's always been my opinion that it takes a pretty massive change in a person's psyche to completely get rid of deep seated personality traits and negative type A behaviors. These are usually big events in their life ranging from exposure to the "real" world, life or career threatening incidents, or extreme relationship changes. I can't see a punishment from a video game having anywhere near the impact necessary for this sort of psyche change.

I wouldn't have a prisoner's island to reform people, it would be to keep people out of otherwise positive games.

And if they make a new account and they're toxic on it, they get stuck in prisoner's island again after awhile. And then it's just a big waste of time getting a level 30 account that ended up in the same place as the first.

This is very shortsighted. The problem you perceive exists with or without the implementation of a separate populace. Toxic smurfs need to be weeded out regardless - new work is not created for Riot - Because toxic mains get temporary bans. Nobody remakes a level 30 account for the lols - it takes more than an entire day from your lifespan you will never get back. You make toxic alts when your toxic main can't be played. You display an inability to recognize the issue being presented and your remarks should hold no value to the community until you can present ideas which cannot be picked apart so easily and shown to be of little thought or value.

I think it could be a good idea as well, the only issue I see with it is that it would leave little room for players who wish to improve on their behavior.

remarkable idea, let the adults and those who can get over themselves - enjoy and trashtalk with their own types -> Instead of forcing bans and goody two shoes restrictions upon them. Just make sure that those with language related offenses make up the secondary group. The players who play the game, don't leave and just happen to hurt someones feelings for the sake of comic relief - even when not everyone finds it funny.

It's sickening to see a culture so embracing the fake-outrage and big brother crap where adults with the reasoning capabilities of small children are programmed to tattle on one another and present feelings that are not their own because some righteous, better than you individual --> decided aids or baby jokes are to be condemned. Freedom went out the window - and riot gets damn lazy in regards to punishment -> get flagged and learn what walking on eggshells is like. Blizzard just has more experience in the matter; they're the professional incarnation of a gaming company- they have perfected the art in many senses and its why Riot's success will always be dwarfed by professionals in the business.

Case and point the 12 million former wow players, starcrafts whole crew, diablos - all those fans will try Heros of the storm - It will blow league out of the water and rightfully so - the company has more experience. The professional scene will follow as the game is more competitive - more fair and team based. Their relationship with vendors and convention centers has years and years - where as RIOT Games are the newfish on the scene - one trick pony waiting to be trumped. Blizzard will do the genre justice - it is their baby after all - being that it would not exist without their place in gaming.

Here here to this idea - It would go a long way towards keeping league relevant in 2015/2016+

i would rather be matched with toxic players then casual braindead kids who feed and cry

only racism/ death threats should be punishable mentally unstable clowns need to use the mute button instead of the report button

While I do like the idea of this concept, I don't think it is fair to the individuals themselves. Yes, they were toxic, but throwing them into a place where they will just exhibit the same behavior with people who do the same thing won't change them. While it is frustrating to deal with them in game, I much rather the current system with RIOT trying to "reform" people with temp bans or chat bans so that the person learns that they are exhibiting behavior that isn't appreciated by the community. At least this way they can HOPEFULLY reform or at least not mistreat the people they interact with online. If RIOT throws people into a place with other toxic people, I feel that they'll just end up making new accounts eventually and mistreat NEW players and turn off new people from the game. They also might just leave and go to another game and exhibit this behavior as well, just making another group of people have to deal with their toxicity.
