Too many shields

I think something needs to be done about the sheer amount of shields in the game. With the decent popularity of Janna and Karma and the current support itemization: item 3190 item 3174 item 3504 item 3107item 3109 (I know that some of these are not built together but still), these items and windspeakers have become very frustrating to play against. I get that carries need something to protect them from assassins but at the same time the amount of shields is creating an uninteractive playstyle. Sure Riot releases some fancy re-tuning of the assassins in order to give them more counterplay but then releases a bunch of new items that counter them even more. So assassins lose more upfront burst and their targets have more effective hp through shields so it makes the assassins job harder than it should be. Something that I think should be done is either create a grievous wounds style item for shields that works like executioners calling, say reduce the effect of shields by x% for x seconds, or reduce the effectiveness of stacking shields, something like summoner 7 or item 3190 does with multiple uses.

Wait, the Knight item doesn't give a shield, just damage reduction.

Janna is popular? Why aren't you wrecking lane if that's the case? :T

Also... your team has access to the same shields.

That said, though.... I believe assassins need that counterplay. If an assassin can't:

  • get the shield baited out

  • get in and out before the shield is activated

  • catch an enemy out

Then they're just not a good assassin. And this is coming from my friend who loves assassins. Assassins are all about observing and acting on windows of opportunity rather than forcing one. It's worth to note that this is a team game.

You're also asking for supports, who are enjoying some GREAT changes that are (arguably) better to the whole game since support's issues even effect things OUT OF THE GAME (autofill and general matchmatching). I'd say making supports more feel more interactive and... better as a whole takes priority here. They're not just ward/healbots and can make plays. A historically highly neglected role is seeing some love.

Assassins can still do great. They just have to be smarter about it now.
