My opinion on why people think Yasuo is broken

smalppuser··2 votes·3,289 views

Well, this isn't a rant about how broken yasuo is, it is a rant about why people think yasuo is broken and what he was supposed to be. This is all from experience fighting against and as him. So, I am in bronze 3 and a zed/gangplank main and i have fought against yasuo a lot. He is honestly a huge pain in the ass when laning against him, and is considered broken and somewhat brain dead??? well I will try to explain which elements of yasuo was broken and what I think he was designed to originally be (this is all from experience, no research done).

I personally think that yasuo was supposed to counter mid lane melee assassins like zed and Katrina (which he does very effectively) but he still needs skill to play and one trick. If I remember correctly, zed was very prominent during those times and was a problem ( seen heavily in pro play too). yasuo effectively does do what he was supposed to do as he is considered a counter pick for most of the assassins but riot went overboard as they realized that mid lane has mages and others too and most assassin's primary damage and set ups comes from ranged abilities (displayed in zed and Katrina) so they decided to add wind wall as a way to defend yasuo against mages and the assassins. Also his q literally denies cs from these melee assassins while staying behind his minions preventing the assassins from being able to burst him. his passive is also so that assassins like zed cant jsut use his weqw2aa combo on him and just kill him like that, also his extra crit passive was in my opinion to prevent him from being a 4 item aoe nasus q with 2 sec cd, but it failed and he is very strong due to it. His entire kit was supposed to counter melee assassins like zed but accidentally counters mages too like vel koz with his shitty ass windwall and his god forsaken dash, I'm guessing riot didn't expect it.

Edit: its just a theory bc i play against yasuos everywhere as zed or gp, I tend to shit on them with gp but zed is a bit harder, so just my idea.

Well, his main issue is how loaded his kit is. Double crit chance, a shield, a "wall" which blocks all autos and most projectiles, A dash with a 0.5 second cooldown or whatever, an auto-reset which again, can crit, a knockup, an ultimate that keeps you knocked up, lifesteal. the list goes on.

HIs double crit is absurd. Crit is meant to be a late game state he gets 100% in just 2 items. The last thing is windwall. Being able to block all projectils even ultis and just ruin an entire class of champions aka adc kits for 4 seconds in a fight is insane. Not to mention multiple dashs.

So, is my theory correct or is it wrong

The problem is that he has the highest gold efficiency in the game and outscales every other champion short of the infinite stacking ones. That sort of power on a champion whose abilities are all designed to be irritating to play against is the issue. Also he was originally made to a bottom laner, but CertainlyT being CertainlyT he was just better in mid anyways

yeah, he was the first of two tries by CT to make a melee bottom laner, the second being Mordekaiser's 2015 juggernaut rework. Morde was more blatantly broken and less marketable so riot nerfed him a lot and later downgraded him with another rework

Not entirely sure. I was around during the release of yasuo and everyone was trying to find out which lane he was best in. It quickly became mid. I do believe his windwall was put in to fight vs ranged champions during the laning phase but ended up over tuned. His passive shield was also put into his kit to help him lane as well to combat poke champions as that was meant to be his weakness and yasuo was suppose to be weak vs mages as CC and the fact he has no MR growth at the time (not sure if this was changed or not). Then the buffed his ulti to reset the shield because he would explode after ulting. He was hard as hell to play at first, hes meant to be a skill expressive champion but soon he became easy to play with a high pick rate and ban rate yet has an amazing winrate for quote on quote being a hard champion to play. doesn't really make sense.

He doesn't counter immobile assassins , he counters Mages , I shit on him easily with Zed and Kat , but as Zed it's kinda a little harder but not impossible enough to call it Counter

depends, I've versed good yasuos with zed and kat, I would allow him to clear faster and kill him before my next wave but sometimes that doesn't happen or work so idk. just a bronze 3 who mains gp's opinion

Yasuo is not OP as a champion. He can be balanced by changing his wind wall and how much his shield will block, as his damage has to be done via combo. I still don't believe he should be able to use other champions knock ups for his R, but that's up to debate.

Why people hate Yasuo is the same reason people hate on Riven. He negates a large part of what some other champions do, effectively just saying "nope!" and then beating you about with his sword. Riven does the same thing, bunch of mobility, very strong all in, denies your ability to deal with her except to answer with another stat check.

Both champions also share the same issue of their fantasy being to 1v5 the enemy team. That means they have to take a LOT of risks and often end up dying more than usual. Even a good Yasuo will have a moment where they try to dive the enemy team, eat crowd control and just melt. So, basically they are playing a separate game of can I get fed enough to 1v5 the entire enemy team. Often that means a lot of deaths and making risky plays, which is not fun for either the team getting 1v5'ed by a single fed champion or the team who has the Yasuo/Riven who can't play safe.

That's not even a point against Yasuo or Riven players, it's just how the champion is made. They do almost nothing at distance, they have to dive the enemy, so they do. The other character class that has to work that way are assassins, but they have to work around their cool downs and are a lot weaker once they've used them up where as Yasuo or Riven can just keep beating you to death and have fairly low CD's yet have few escapes.

My issue with yasuo is the same as my issue with Riven, Thresh, Ekko, Camille, Sylas, etc. They seem to have an answer to every situation, and other champions don't have that luxury

hunh what? yasuo isn't a melee assassin counter lol, his matchups into most melee assassins have historically been bad and he's consistently been abusing projectile mages in lane, idk where you're coming from. the only 2 melee mids u.gg says he has a positive winrate against is katarina and qiyana, both of which tend to just try to stall out laning phases against other melees as they usually just get out-statted by assassins/bruisers up close

ORIGINALLY he was designed as a melee ADC, which came with high mobility, defensiveness, and slightly higher damage - because he was a melee playing into a ranged-occupied lane, but people rather quickly noticed that he was actually just better at fucking with projectile mages and had too many iffy matchups bot for him to be a consistent pick so he landed on mid and has sat there for a while

He is annoying. thats why. The Double crit allowing for mid game power spikes and crit being a fantastic late game stat, as well as the ability to just shutdown ranged champs with W

Thats why people hate him really. I dont particually care, but yea that double crit is annoying as fuck. makes his powerspikes come so early.

I don't know why people think he is OP here let me list some ideas:

1: one of the most mobile champion (Kalista and Kassadin literally made for mobility so..., altho he is arguably better than kass in terms of mobility due to kass high mana costs) 2: High survivability and utility with wind wall 3: Easy to get shield 4: Double crit 5: Good builds due to double crit 6: Extremely high damage (One of the highest if not the highest) 7: Poke (not good poke but it exists) 8: Good scaling 9: Scaling 10: Armor pen and true damage 11: Good synergy with runes 12: poke immunity 13: Good burst 14: Good sustained damage 15: Safe 16: Low skill floor 17: Early powerspike 18: Good wave shoving 19: Good teamfight 20: Broken 1v1 21: Big boi plays possible (b/c of high skill floor) 22: No costs 23: Low cool down on Q and E 24: Assassin least reliant on ulti for kills 25: Can build a bit tanky due to double crit 26: Good ability scaling 27: Can be played in 3 roles effectively (top, mid , and adc) and arguably also jg(altho not reccomended) 28: One shots 29: Snowballs extremely hard 30: Decent tower taker Yeah, he's pretty weak sure with this small list of his OP qualities sarcasm op hasagi man, rito pls nerf not too mention he's an assasin and they OP.
