Server Down for Maintenance

Why do I get kicked out of my current game when the server goes down for scheduled maintenance? This has happened to me multiple times. Can we not finish the current game?

They even warn you ahead of time that ALL games will end with a draw and will end immediately the moment the server goes down at the scheduled time.

A good solution (that warcraft does), is it prevents queues for certain activities too close to shutdown time. If Riot followed a similar path, it would be nice if they prevented queues 30 minutes before shutdown, and let all games presently in progress run their course.
