Turrets and You

Just curious--how many of you know that turrets on each map lose a huge chunk of their armor/MR when a single enemy minion is near it?

Because almost every game I play, it seems like the teams I play with get so kill-hungry that they gradually lose our turrets one by one. I will literally watch the team stand around under a turret while the enemy adc and a huge wave of minions shoot at it. No one bothers to even try to save the turret, even when we outnumber the enemy champion(s) 2-1 or 3-1, etc. They just let the minions take the turret down.
