Unable to climb the ladder as a support, what am I doing wrong?

I stared of my season 6 getting placed into silver put after some grinding I was able to climb up to gold 3. I am a support main (Thresh, Janna, Bard) I had fallen down to gold 5 which is no big deal but after a while I just was never able to win a ranked game solo and began to fall. Recently I've fallen to around silver 2 30 LP and I have no idea why it always seems like I'm always on the losing side in a ranked game. I try and do every thing I possibly can to get my adc ahead and give them the very best lead over the enemy adc but when it comes to mid/late game it all turns into a clown fiesta and goes bad really fast. I really enjoyed playing support and was having a great time but now it feels like I'm unable to do anything to win. I'm getting really discouraged that if i continue to play I'm just going to lose game after game after game. The only time I have been able to win a game was when I was with friends but other than that I've just been in a constant downward spiral in ranked. Even if I manage to get a win the amount of LP I get is must less than the amount that I lose when I lose a game. I would really like to be back in gold having fun and not watching game after game turn into a clown fiesta.

Silver is by far the worse elo to climb out of for the following.

Smurfs People who are stuck in silver who don't belong there. People who got out of bronze hell. Trolls/Afk

Season 6, I tried to main support but I couldn't deal with the teams I was getting. So I moved onto other roles mid/top. Your building right as a support and your overall partipation is good. however if you wanna climb out of silver. I recommend try playing a solo lane role.

What worked for me I played GP Mid and gave my teammates arial support. and when I would go top, since alot of players in support don't go tank supports (Some do but you get my point) I go trundle, renekton top.

Just depends solely on what work best for you.

Sparknotes version: I tried to support, I didn't feel satisfied with the damage/groups I was with. SO I moved to carry role and climbed out faster. Your building right and it looks like your helping your team right, but the elo your in is the hardest to climb out of. My suggestion is try other methods to climb out or keep trying and you will eventually succeed.

You can lose 9 games in a row but the chance of winning the next game are 10/10

your problem is that you seem to want to play every champion in the game at least once. stick to playing champions you have a good win rate with like Janna, and stop randomly picking stuff and expecting to win.

Play a carry role tbh. Silver ADCs do NOT know how to play. Go midlane with a support that can go mid and carry there.

Can't gleen much from just op.gg, but one suggestion I could make would be to simply focus on not dying. Spend the next 10 games with one objective: to die as few times as possible. If you can limit the number of times you die you will automatically start winning more games. Especially on your off roles. Your mid and ADC (from whats shown in op.gg) are pretty bad. If you're forced to play a role other than your main, don't pick champs to carry with, pick champs that offer utility. Instead of vayne, use ashe. Instead of katarina, play lulu, ziggs, annie, or lissandra. If you're unfamiliar with the role you have way more going on in your head, and essentially "supporting from the carry role" is a more efficient way to win from a lane you don't normally play.

tanks supports i believe are better for carrying because: A) they give your carry more gold, especially if they suck at cs B) they are an additional meat shield with a lot of meat to spare. C) when they roam, they provide a lot of pressure for ganks. D) stand behind braum.

Support is a royal bitch to carry in, if you're intent on climbing choose a different role. It's unfortunate, but even if you perform exceptionally it's quite possible that the game results in a loss due to carries who don't capitalize on your setup.

That said, if you want to play a support and nothing else.

  • Pick a tank support, as was said above, they're much better at carrying as they can hard engage and force advantageous fights while effectively peeling
  • Play fewer off-meta picks, a lot of them are viable when coordinating, but simply won't have the desired effect when queuing solo
  • Make sure you have proper support runes, a solid staple set is flat armor quints & seals, stacking mr glyphs, and hybrid pen marks.
  • If you're open to it, play Blitz. Blitz is the uncoordinated and low elo stomp machine. All it takes is 1 hook 25 minutes into the game and even if your team is 10 kills behind you'll win a fight off the back of good hooks. (Considering the tendency for players to walk into hooks, good hooks happen often)

Actually queuing with friends is the best possible thing you can do as a support that plays to win. This means you need to start amassing a friend list of reliable, skilled, and most of all friendly players that you encounter in game. This includes friending strong opponents in your games as well. The support role is inherently more dependent on the team, therefore bringing a constant positive factor into each game and backing it up is the key to success in the anarchy that is silver tier.

Another thing you can consider is bringing a carry from the support role, the best examples being velkoz or brand. Those guys can seriously shred enemy teams even on a support budget and without the help of quality teammates.

You dont have to change your role from support to climb. I literally solo queued my way up from bronze to high gold and am now on my way to plat playing mostly alone as support.

If you did, you were lucky as carry supports are quite literally the worst for carrying. Even assuming you played perfectly, which let's be honest - you didn't (as no one would), carry supports require a substantial amount of gold to be relevant. This means either you were ruining the lane with plenty of gold to spare from kills, or you cannibalized your ADC's gold.

Carry supports are really risky, because without meaningful gold income they prove inconsequential to the game, beyond that if your support is a carry without meaningful CC you need to rely on your team to peel for your carries (yourself included, if playing a carry support) and that can be tricky. What you're suggesting sounds more like your premade experiences, not a solo player experience. Or, you just got lucky. Or, you're just stupidly good, don't let my cynicism hold you back if so.

However, I would suggest that carry supports are a very poor choice if you're hoping for reliability in climbing the ladders as a solo support main. If it worked amazingly well for you then I would suggest you're the exception to the rule.
