How Veigar's new E can be finaly useful a bit.

So , since the last update of Veigar there were 2 patches, 5.7+5.8 in which he wasn’t touched (though Riot wrote that they would keep an eye on him and in genereal “work in progress”). So as a team who is in charge for balance of champs has forgotten him, not having done his skills compatible with each other in any way, most players have forgotten this useless champ too. But for those who adore this champ and will never stop summon him, however misbalanced he would be, there is a solution to this problem! Today I am gonna tell you how you can land his absolutely unplayable stun and deal some damage with his deadly w+q+r combo.

The real truth is that it’s quite easy to land his stun, it’s enough to have a good control in a team and someone who can push ur enemies to the walls of ur stun. We just have to use the following strategy:

Step 1: We need a good initiator with AOE control. Someone who can abruptly rush into the crowd and stun all, or do it from some range. The perfect variants are Sona/Bard/Annie/Braum/Amumu/Sejuani/Malphite. Step 2: When we see that someone from the mentioned above initiate we try to surround with cage as more people as possible. In a perfect situation you must have 3-5 champs inside. Step 3: As the stun of mentioned above champs ends, we need someone who will move the enemies, pushing them to our walls. Here it would be great to have such champs with good ults: Azir/Gnar or Darius with his E, who can come from his top for tf. It also would be great to have ult of Gragas. If there are 2-3 champs who are rather close to each other , we can use the ult of Tristana. Step 4: MEGA WQR COMBO from Veigar and a little help with dmg from other teammates to finish others.

So if u follow these simple instructions, you can easily stun our enemy so you won’t have to wait painfully for the moment when the enemy would want to voluntarily touch the wall of our stun!

tl;dr useless in lane relies heavily on allies to utilize his own crowd control ability.

I have actually been a Veigar main for just over four years now. I constantly see people make the claim about his stun being impossible to use/land. In reality, it really is not that bad to catch people with it. The main value of his stun does come mid and late game when team fights break out. Just catching someone inside the wall and not stunning them is almost a guaranteed kill if your team follows up properly.

For your laning phase, your main focus is farm. With the great range and missile speed of his Q, farming is very easy to do from safe distances now. The only time to attempt to poke is when it is clear that the opponent is coming at you, or if you have control of the minion wave. When they attempt to pressure or poke you, just disengage and throw Q back for safe poke. This will always be difficult against some champions though (i.e. Syndra, Xerath), but you can always build Athenes to mitigate out their poke and keep your cds low and farm high. Your stun becomes an amazing tool for setting up ganks when your jungle is close. Just landing the stun around them as the jungle comes in creates high amounts of pressure. Do you stay in the arena and chance being caught to save your flash, or do you pop it to attempt to survive with as much health as possible. Either way you are going to win this engage. Burning just that flash will set you up for a follow up gank, or even a complete combo of W and Q.

After laning phase Veigar becomes a shining star for team fights. His stun becomes a zoning tool that is very hard to deal with. With the recent changes to his cd on W and E, Veigar with max cdr can throw W every 4.8 sec, stun every 6.9 sec(if my memory serves me right. don't quote me =p), and bringing your Q back down to the glorious 3 sec cd we love. Not only are these cds really low, but they hit extremely hard. Positioning your W is probably the most crucial thing you will have to learn. You have to guide it just ahead of the target or targets you are attempting to hit or zone. Throwing your stun out on fights, especially in the jungle, will create a field of play for your team. If there are targets caught inside you can either have tanks or cc machines knock them into the walls as stated above, or burst them down without much worry of the enemy team engaging into the fight thanks to the changes made to the wall stopping dashes. Of course anyone caught in Veigar's web at the edge of the stun is going to be instagibbed by him if they are not a tank. Zhonya's will be your safe guard mechanic if anyone attempts to dive you after a combo, in which your team should immediately peel and burn them down. Veigar's Q also has a very strong role in these engages as well. Being able to hit two people for anywhere from 15% to 30% of their Hp with one three second cd will force enemies down lower before they can even get to the fight. With it being a skill shot, you can now do this from safe distances while maneuvering. Not to mention you can blind fire into bushes and over walls now with no vision XD.

Overall it just takes a lot of practice to become comfortable and familiar with his new kit. I am still practicing and fine tuning my use of the new Q and E. These changes were very necessary though. The instant stun from before on seasoned Veigar players had almost no counter early game. Before the changes I landed the edge of the stun directly on the target about 80% of the time. Now they have brought him back to a more passive farm mage who waits for opportunities early game, instead of popping enemy mid lanes at levels 4 through 6.
