I know ezreal is considered a garbage tier adc at the moment, but for some reason I feel like he's really strong. I tend to magically end up with an enormous amount of gold and carry the game regardless whether i lose lane or not. So tell me, what makes ezreal trashcan tier compared to other ADs?

manbearswine3 votesHe is not exactly trash tier,he is situational(too situational imo),an adcs job generally is to output a lot of dps,which ezreal doesn't do very well,there are also better lane bullys out there,so if you are looking to win(ezreal is good at not losing lane) lane there are better picks.
I sometimes see him do well(i mean as a pick,i quite often see ezreal simply do well,but can't help but feel a mainstream adc would do even better),but it's a rarity,you generally want a team comp focused on poke+siege+disengage+kite which don't happen often,generally aren't very solo q fitting(mostly because people just pick whatever they want(not saying they shouldn't,this is simply the way it's generally is),which just doesn't end up in this sort of comp),and even if you do manage to get into such a comp,all it takes is one guy to go rambo as he isn't used to playing in such a way to mess it up.
Overall i think he may(not entirely sure about where the latest changes put him) need some buffs,so that he may be an actual situational pick,instead of something which theoretically can be good,but practically you just never get the comp to make him fit.

He's not?
Just because he isn't 100% pick/ban doesn't mean he's garbage.
Ezreal is a pretty solid marksman. He's just not one of the top meta picks at the moment. Only problem he really has is he isn't one of the top meta picks at the moment.
Part of that is because Lucian has proven to just be a stronger, more well-rounded mid-game marksman than Ezreal. Part of that is because the meta currently favors very late-game marksman like Tristana rather than mid-game carries like Ezreal.
Doesn't mean you're putting yourself at much of a disadvantage by running Ezreal instead though.

I've never seen somebody outright fail with ez, but he has a tendency to depend on his early game. Few ezreal players have a rebound game. If you win early, ezreal is an easy snowball champ. Otherwise, it gets harder and harder the longer the game is. And to be honest, he doesn't have the same "safety" other champs do in lane.

Ezreal can get ahead and snow ball off that, but if he does not get ahead or gets behind he does not have the DMG to come back like others. He is very good at staying alive, and when fed your alive dealing a lot of DMG, but when your just even Trist can stay alive too and shred your entire team while a tank forces Ezreal away from the fight.

NoMonku1 votesHe isn't as good compared to other ADC's, just as simple as that. You doing well means you are good with him and/or people you are playing against don't know how to play against him so they make mistakes which you can take advantage of. Ezreal is decent still, but as the meta changed to bot lanes fight a lot more, Ezreal isn't as strong in all scenarios. Usually what makes/breaks him is his ability to land Q's for harass/poke. If he does, he is better then any other ADC and can beat anyone, but if he doesn't, well he will usually just lose unless he is extremely far ahead. Also as he is a caster style ADC he falls off late game, so there's another negative for him. I know I'm just listing out his negatives, he does have plenty of strengths, it's just that these negatives are usually deal breakers atm especially when you have other champions, like Lucian and Corki, who offer similar but easier styles of poke in lane, as they are AoE and not blocked by minions, and scale similarly or better. He is just outdone by others, but he is still fine himself, so if you like him play him. Also you will never have to worry about it being banned against you.

Too much of his damage requires landing a skillshot (q).
Hence why Ez says "i'll show you true skill" or whatever. He's not trash in the hands of a gold+ player. Because they can use his e to dodge and consistently land q's while auto attacking. But he's just hard to deal a lot of damage with if you don't main him or are below gold.
Lucian and corki do his job a lot better atm.

Thunderkeg1 votesI'm pretty sure he still is and has been one of Korea's favorite adcs even if he's not that good in the current meta. There's a lot to be said about being as safe as he is.
