@Riot - Have you ever thought of a champion that actually BREAKS the terrain?
For example, the wall behind dragon pit- have there ever been any ideas of champions breaking said wall, temporarily or for that whole match?

We've talked about terrain destruction abilities a fair bit and do think there's some pretty cool gameplay opportunities in them. Making such abilities look good enough's the biggest challenge remaining at this point (still some technical and design issues to solve, but of a smaller scale). Given the way our maps are made there'd be a lot of work on the art side needed to support such abilities. I'm hopeful we'll get there at some point, definitely won't be in the short term though.
Thanks for the response!

what about terrain passing? like a dragon who can fly through walls?
Some form of ongoing flight on a champion at some point's pretty likely, and mainly a question of finding the right gameplay fit, rather than technical limitations. Would be a really different ability though to terrain destruction of course (changing one characters options a lot versus changing both teams' options a lot).
Which reminds me... how does the game determine whether a dash gets through a wall or not? Many times I've had to walk around thin walls because my dash (in this case, Shen's E) completely fizzled out and dashed me into a wall like I was a drill. And how would the destruction of terrain change that?

If you would dash more than halfway through, you'll make it all the way through.

YOU HAVE PREDICTED THE FUTURE.
I think it would have been fitting to see this on somebody like
, who was made to destroy. Destroying terrain with his ult would have been really cool.
Yes i second this
aslo i think
should count as terrain because he is a rock ^^
That meme still exists? I feel old now.
From the programming side, it could work pretty similarly to Bard's Magical Journey (e) just with less loss of control. Just food for thought
It's not so much the programming side, as it is making the destroyed terrain look good (rubble of broken walls, destoyed trees, appropriate ragged edges for still standing terrain etc).
maybe for a start you could make a champ that can break only certain points in the map.
Or how about a champ that can make (and brake) permanent terrain?
Certain points only would be a good way of reducing scope. Might also be a good fit for an item or summoner spell, rather than a champion.
omg! a summoner spell that could both make and break permanent terrain would be so awesome! Would really alter how the game is played if done right.
[slayer-jinx-wink]
That would be the new flash and absolutely unbalanced.
WALL OFF MID LANE, MY FRIENDS
has done a concept about this http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/ByiGj8uI-vera-the-miner-girl-champ-concept
Would it be possible to have a flag(programming flag) on each unit of terrain which is set as giving a champion a permanant ghost effect while in the tunnel(usng minions as the tunnel)
Updated the concept http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/AE8FNI2N-vera-the-mountains-bane
What if, to make it easier (and perhaps more interesting), the broken terrain was sliced cleanly in the shape of a sphere, Terminator-style? http://www.blu-raystats.com/img_scr/Terminator2JudgmentDaySkynetEdition_12236103646_4.png
That would allow you to basically use a sort of spherical "erase"-tool on the environment, and maybe add a sort of red-hot burn effect, but not much more would have to be done.
As for the permanence or lack thereof of the environmental destruction, maybe it can revert back to its original state after a minute or so, like maybe it can "go back in time" or something.
ah, things like how if you were to just cut open a wall at random you'd probably be able to see through the wall and into the void?
Year 2021:
rework.
New Passive: MOVE BITCH!
Whenever Leona comes in contact with short walls (the ones most all champions as of 2020 can dash over) she permanently smashes the terrain, damaging (20xlevel + "true armor" dealt as 'pure damage') all enemy units within 150 radius. ( 40 second cooldown, unaffected by cdr )
Hahaha brutal. Love the "Move Bitch" name too.

I think the OP is referring to a Champion that literally breaks and crumbles the stone walls around Summoner's Rift.
I think bard is the closet we are going to get anywhere in the near future breaking the terrain model then rebuilding them after the duration is over. It takes them 5 months just make a frog
Fair enough. xD

Goddamn, you beat me to it.
You're right,we need a champ with an ability that breaks the 4th wall.

Morde already does this. "You only have to click once, fool!"
So does primetime draven :D
Ult max range should break terrain
Not only have they thought about it, but they've already created a champion with that ability.
They haven't though. They made Bard which has the same function, but he doesn't break the terrain like the OP describes. There's a big thematic difference if not a gameplay one to say the least.
Finally a use for Nautilus' best skin, Subterranean Naut.
Can't Sej break Anivia and J4 walls?
I just envisioned Shyvana ulting and breaking through walls in Summoner's Rift. I need it to happen.
We don' t have already that with
and
somehow? Or you want to do it in a even bigger scope?
