Why was Vel'Koz in the big 6?

I have recently started playing velkoz as he was one of those mid laners I never had.

But i really am confused at why he was added into the big 6 when really only his ulti changed... Basically Annie had a bigger update then Velkoz...

His Q refunds mana and his ult now researches.. I dont see what the large update was. More damage? Mix of numbers? Couldnt we have spent a little more time investing into a champion who maybe needs a smaller rework like (IMO) Syndra (Just a better passive [ even the new one seems plain]) Or possibly fiddlesticks. Seems like his passive will really help a bit (At least for now) Movement speed for the party of his ult. That somewhat seems larger too.

Thanks

Graphics changes. They said from the beginning that he wasn't going to receive very big changes, but that he was being included in the big 6 for any potential visual and graphic changes he might need.

i think 1.5k true damage is a big thing

They said from start he wasn't going to get a big update.

Maybe bigger changes just didn't pan out. Perhaps they listened to "don't ruin Vel'Koz" outcry.

I personally enjoy Vel'Koz as he is.

Compared to other champions mid lane he didn't do the damage he deserved to when you were massively ahead. I have been 15/3, 17/4, 20+/6 ....etc and felt like i do as much as THEIR support. Other mages when you are like 6/2 you can nuke anyone instantly and vel'koz just didn't get what the player earned with him. Now when i outplay their whole team i will do more than like 200 damage
