How about a 3-teams Gamemode ?

Hey dear community ! What's up ? :) Few days ago I thought about a new gamemode with 3 teams, I will explain first how it could be, then I'll say why I think it's doable, and what it could bring to league. Don't forget to let me know what you think about it and upvote if you like it :)

Okay so, the main idea is to keep 3 lanes and the jungle, but Instead of playing in a square shaped map, it would be a triangular map, with one nexus at each corner. The mids would meet at the center, and the last lanes would be along the sides, as top and bot are actually in the rift. About objectives, let's put one on each jungle side, I will explain why right after.

Here's a quick layout, to get the idea : https://www.dropbox.com/s/0603468kl57v3hg/scheme.png?dl=0 (It's paint, but it is easy) Brown | lanes Green | jungle Blue | river circle | nexus Square/diamond | jungle objective

Now that you got the basic idea, let's explain a bit more :

=> First, the objectives.

With one on each jungle side, let's say one spawn on the bottom side, the team at the top is further than the two others, so when the ennemy teams try to get it, they have 2 possibilities : they can extend to contest it, or push the lanes while opponents are fighting/taking it. > If this become impossible to deal with, let's reduce minions spawn rate or crank up turrets rate of fire, so pushing is slower

=> Next, the lanes

The midlane seems to be incredibly difficult because of the two ennemy junglers, and roaming ... But with small changes we can make it playable, for example, wider lanes, possibility to get 2 pink wards (maybe a bit op), or ward generation quicker, which means more vision and more time to react. In addition assassins are fast and most mages have CCs + There is 3 champions at the midlane, ganking is harder. > This also means that mistakes can lead to a double kill at midlane. kill stealing will have a real place here.

The side lanes were difficult to imagine because we couldn't put an adc + a support against a tank or a bruiser, but I heared someone sent a message to riot and they said they wanted to change the botlane to allow something else than adc-support exclusively. (If a member of the support/staff/moderation team read this, please confirm or invalidate it) So because the future meta allow bruiser-support duo to fight against adc-support duo, this means that by adding a sixth player, like a second support, we could have two lanes of two players (2 adcs or 1adc + 1 bruiser or 2 bruisers) able to fight on equal terms. > This means on each lane mistakes can lead to a double kill. This also means more wards so more vision on each sides of the map, to help our midlaners.

By doing all this we could make this gamemode steady,** each lane is even** because each player is in the same situation, there is no 2v1 on any lanes, and playing good is still rewarded, as we all know riot likes to make snowball possible by playing nicely.

Teamfights would be harder/funnier, decisions would be more rewarding, and add another team makes the whole decision making more complicated. This can teach many things to the classic gamemode on the rift (decision making, warding, laning phase ...) It can also be a nice challenge for everyone, with animation orgy in teamfights :D

Thanks for your reading, let me know what you think, what is to improve, what could be nice, and upvote if you want more people reading this :)

You know, this is a really great idea! But (sorry, there always seems to have to be a but) I don't think this would work with 5 people per team, due to potential hardware limitations on the user side of things. I remember when Elementalist Lux came out, there was a dev blog saying that there was a limit of megabytes they could use per skin, and I think having more than 10 champions per game would upset the balance they have made in making the game run on just about anything. Here's the link if you're interested. Another thing would be processing that many vfx at once, especially during teamfights with minions all around and everything flying everywere! Especially on a potato computer (like mine), this would be pretty difficult to render. Not to mention, for most people not a problem I wouldn't think, but the internet usage for 3 teams would be, well, 50% more than a game as it currently runs.

Sorry to shoot your idea down. I like it, I really do! If Riot could make a way around these hardware limitations, I am all for playing a game mode like this. but sadly, as the game is now, I don't see it being possible. If you have any suggestions on remedying the problems on the hardware side of things, I'm all ears. However, sincerely, thank you for taking the time to envision a cool new feature.

thanks for your reply, I never heard about it so I will go see it and I'll think, but if even a skin created problem I can understand that many characters on the map could be a problem =/ I never thought about this aspect of the problem, thank you ^^

I really like this idea (although maybe 4 teams of 2 would be more interesting) but I think it couldn't work because of certain champion abilities that would go crazy in a mode like this. Karthus ult would be way overtuned Rengar would need a passive change (There are other examples but I can't think of them)

PS: This would be better appreciated in Concepts/Creations.

I remember a Rioter mentioning that the problem with 3 teams was it became best practice for 2 teams to gang up on the weakest team and get them out of the way first, at which point it's a 2 team game again.

As the other guy mentioned, you'd start to run into issues adding more players to the game. Hexakill (12 people in game) is probably as much as the game can realistically handle, so that would give you teams of 4 instead of 6. With your map design, that results in 1 top, 1 bot, 1 mid, 1 jungle, 0 support. While it could be interesting to see that in action, I imagine a lot of players wouldn't be too happy if they couldn't play their favorite champions because they're designed around duo laning.
