"No I said mid first" - When will this be fixed?

Hey community!

I wonder why Riot hasn't issued a fix to a endless "No, I said /role first" normal queue? Maybe there should be instead of a draft mode a game mode where you pick the role you want to play and it simply finds you a game with that role. Now, draft mode has similar features but I don't want to go through the banning phase or anything like that. Let's say I want to practise jungling against other players and not in the Practise tool neither I want to go ranked with a certain champ I want to master, so there's two options: normal and draft.

[zombie-nunu-bummed]

Normal: Fastest way to get yourself into the game but there's this "No, I said /role first" thing which gets many people tilted before the game even starts which is sometimes so painful to read. So what options do I have? As a decent human being if someone takes my lane, i'll just play another lane. But this drags me away from my desire to play jungle for instance. Eventually someone leaves - lucky. But when no one leaves I end up with playing a full game before I can actually practise my role with some champion and before going to ranked with it. Another option is that I quit the queue and end up getting a 5 minute penalty for it.

Normal Draft: A nice way to start a game and there's a 50/50 chance of me getting my role just like in normal. But I don't want the banning face, I want it to be blind. So this is a nej nej as well.

Solution? Create a normal game mode with with a single role pick. It might take longer to find a queue for me but at least I will be saved from this cancerous and toxic conversation of "No, I said mid first" and I can concentrate learning and practising certain champs in certain roles against real people not training dummies or bots.

We had a system like this. It was called Teambuilder. But unfortunately, Riot scrapped it, because it had way too long Q times, So Riot had to make a compromise when implementing the new role selection.

And by "way too long" we're talking 20+ minute queue times. It was essentially putting yourself in low priority queue.

junglerboy164 votes

yeah 20 min was considered fast for team builder, but some people appreciated the difference in game quality enough to do it anyway...

Well, unless you picked support.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

Idk I chose support and never got to play it once. Gave up after like 20 mins. But I had a premade ADC so maybe that was why

ModCaptainMårvelous4 votes

The queue times depended on what you wanted to play.

Support Bot lane Janna? Insta-queue.

AP Darius Jungle? Good luck ever getting into a team and staying there.

so it was two times shorter than my ranked queues at the beginning of dynamic queue?

You wave your rights to have a secured role when you play Blind pick. I'd rather have a chance of getting top, jungle, or support, then wait 10 min in Draft pick to get a que only for someone to dodge and have to wait another 10 min.

What elo do you have that's 10 minutes for queue to pop?

I'm mid plat mmr right now and it's 4-5 mins at absolute most.

Sometimes it can take 10-15 mins to get into a game if a lot of queue dodges happen but usually only 1 to 2 do.

Unranked currently, no clue what MMR I'm in I play with people silver to diamond. I don't play ranked until right before the season ends and stop climbing until i get the rank I want, so my elo is pretty irratic atm as well.

Would be nice to see - mid is very contested so I run into this a lot. Usually other people in the chat room can let us know who actually won, but still frustrating when someone locks in because their screen shows they won the race when they hadn't.

Honestly, the reason Teambuilder had long queue times was because everyone was playing Normal Blind. They should have just removed Normal Blind and kept Teambuilder, that way all of those players would migrate over to Teambuilder and the queue times would drop. I loved Teambuilder, despite not liking mirror matchups, it was a great way to just play one champion repeatedly as practice. The biggest issue with Teambuilder was the lack of Supports and Jungles. But, if you got Teambuilder equipped with some form of auto-fill system like draft has, that would also be fixed.

I'm not sure how much other Qs had an effect on teambuilder. But I would agree that it should have been the main non ranked Q. I too liked being able to chose a specific champion to practice. I also liked that you could pretty much chose anything, and not be called out for trolling, Simply because everyone had to agree. you could easily get kicked, or can back out, if you bring something that someone didn't sign up for.

That said, if you were to maintain specific champion select, Autofill wouldn't work for a teambuilder, since you probably wouldn't pick an ADC in the support role. You would probably have to find another way to encourage people to pick the off roles. (Though as a support main, Qing up for support meant getting into game pretty much right away.)

The problem is that queue times would be way too long. In addition to being yet another queue that has its players split with the other queues, just picking one role with no auto fill would take ages.

So what you're saying is you want teambuilder back? Very rarely do I agree with the mass consensus of this community, but I'm on board with that.

Escheton3 votes

Personally, I think they should bring back Teambuilder, and have it give either no or few IP. The fact that it put you in more forgiving games when you picked an unfamiliar champ or role made it awesome as is. No more tryhards flaming you for playing a free week champ in normals. On top of being able to play what you wanted, where you wanted.

Remove blind pick, because it´s essentially the same, except more trolling.

And have Normal Draft give standard IP, where you go to practise for Ranked. Or Flex casually.

Khadaver3 votes

That's exactly what team builder was, then we got draft but autofilled got put in. Team builder's return is long overdue imo

Magearna1 votes

This is exactly what I was about to comment. I'm still at a lost on why they removed Team Builder. As long as you didn't mind waiting, it was a really good queue.

Xonra3 votes

One of the many reasons blind pick is garbage and should have been removed a long time ago.

Mordepool2 votes

For a minute there I thought you where talking about role calling in s2

Swaid2 votes

Heroes of the Storm has the exact mode you speak of called Quick Match.

Its a bit of a cluster fuck because sometimes team comps are god awful or there's a shit ton of stealth Heroes clogging up the matchmaking, but its pretty much exactly what you want. You pick your character and then queue up, but I guess its easier for matchmaking since there isn't a strict meta in Heroes; an all supports team can win a game if played right.

PlanetWarwick2 votes

No lmao you get to choose Nobody wants to be a dick but you aren't worth riots trouble of making another queue

LadyRenly2 votes

scrap normal blind honestly, its a shitty q and I don't know why people play it, it brings out the worst in everybody.

NotSpecialDude1 votes

Mind is telling me no but my body is telling me yes.

Memes aside the real issue is that beginners need blinds. Draft requires 16 champions and free week doesn't cover it. They would need to increase the champs on free week to a minimum of 16 champs but even the the ban and pick phase will be so slow.

Likewise jg is impossible without smite which isn't unlocked right away. In general the beginners experience is already hampered by a poor tutorial and limit champ roster. No need to make it worse by having pvp limited to champ roster as well.

A)

It doesn't exist anymore because Riot syncs chat. Its been this way forever.

B)

You're playing blind pick. Like..

Jesus is Savior1 votes

Uhhhhhh they already fixed this. Unless you literally did not connect to chat (which will also show in the chat box)

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Didn't they fix the "I picked <role> first" thing a while back? I thought they made it so that all players got the same chat a while back. It's not a fix to the whole problem of blind pick being shit, but that problem was dead IIRC.

Meanie401 votes

When you stop playing blind pick.

Spoofghoul1 votes

it will be fixed with the removal of midlane in preseason 8

instead we get 4 lanes and there will no longer be a midlane

Glory ln Death1 votes

Midland won't really get removed, though. There will just be a "second mid lane" added - the sky lane, which floats above the mid lane.

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

People still play blind pick? lol
