For example team summoner spell timers/ team ult notifier so we can wombo combo and maybe 1 or 2 other things and sure we necessarily did not need these things before, but in my opinion they help make games easier and solo queue much more fun.
There's nothing stopping that from being implemented in the old hud. It would look exactly the same, but now there's a timer icon when it's on CD.
The only relevant information that got added this patch is enemy CS and KDA when clicking on them, and the enemy death timers appearing above the minimap. The latter can be unobtrusively added as well (keep it above the minimap; it's new, that's fine), while the former would indeed require some redesign work to incorporate.
There were good things added, but it does have some readability and sizing issues that could have been resolved based on PBE feedback.
You say that as if it was impossible for Riot to modify the old HUD.
