Real time internet check

I wrote this to Riot Game Support Twitter, "" When you log in,you should be a color of your internet connection,a green border for good, yellow slow, red for NO RANKED GAMES!"",, and they wrote back to me, This could be a very interesting idea! Post this to our boards and see what others have to say: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance … SO here it is.. So very basic, you have a border around your name, showing you, your online strength status. So, you can say to yourself, " Hey, I can't play ranked right now, I'm in the red." Then you can see what is going on with your internet or PC. Much love to Phylol and Foxdrop for the education.

while the idea is amazing, the execution might be very troublesome, in order for you to know if your connection will be stable or not, you need to ping Riot's servers meaning that your computer needs to send a teeny tiny package and wait for it to come back and then measure how long it took, this is fine even if millions of players do it at the same time, the problem would be the refresh rate of this feature, if you send a package every hour or so, you have 24 packages sent in a day, multipliying that by the amount of players currently active gives you a crazy high number, the servers could even crash from all this constant activity and latency all around would be affected in a negative way because of server load, numbers go even higher if the refresh rate is constant which for a feature like this should be somewhat constant.

I would advocate more for a check button that you can click and check the status of your connection buuuut then you'd open the gates for a DDoS kind of attack so it's pretty dangerous... all in all its a great idea but Riot would need to come up with a clever technical way of implementing it

Really, cause when you get on like Destiny or COD or something, they have realtime bars of connection right by your name. Don't see how if they can do it, this game can't, other than all the stuff you said up there i guess...

that's different though, when you enter in a game of league you establish a direct connection with the game server, I'm not particularly savvy on the subject since I'm not a network engineer but as I understand for league, the server you connect to find a game and the server you play on are different, this way millions of player can be connected on the launcher clicking stuff without overloading the connection for the players in-game.

Now if you throw everyone on the same server, you can't assure the same ping quality that league presents today (even if at times it's not the best, Riot's engineeers have worked hard to improve their network issues and for the most part a lot of them have been alleviated) mostly because you would indeed overload the server since now you don't have a stable amount of disconnections (you only stay on the game server for like an hour at best) and connections but you tip the balance towards connections that lasts forever (since you would instantly enter the game server as you enter the client now) and transmit data all the time.

Shows your connection in numbers as soon as you load the screen to play, and until you end the game. So, why not just when you are logged on in the whole time , through out game mode pick to champ pick. The thing is, some people internet do weird things, or people do weird things at weird times to it, so it is not always the same, even though they have good internet most of the time. It would be an early indicator of, hey, maybe I sit this one out until I find out whats going on. Heck some people might even fight out the problems causing their lag, and can fix it through notifications like such.
