My game crashed when i was watching this youtube vid.

coffy102··3 votes·2,388 views

Not only did it crash, it also locked up my whole computer and i had to restart it. this in turn made me be late to the game i was loading in too. which in turn made me have a bad game, and made me get a little pissed off. so not only did i have to start 3 waves of minions behind. i had to deal with the tilt of the GAME ITSELF causing this issue. and of course when i get back into the game and get into the lane. the jungle comes and ganks me while im still lvl 1. just to add to more tilt.

so just watching a youtube video with the words "cheat engine" in it is enough for the game to crash itself. isnt this a little invasive of my privacy?

to go as far as too check the title of the youtube video im watching. i think thats a little far and is a violation of my privacy.

DrCyanide4 votes

If you actually watched the YouTube video you linked to, you'd know what's going on, and you would have expected it to crash the game.

coffy1022 votes

thats not the point im trying to make here. use your brain. what is the last sentence.

DrCyanide4 votes

It's no more an invasion of privacy than looking at who else is on a bus is an invasion of the privacy of those on the bus. Because that's exactly what's going on here.

Riot's looking at the barest minimum description of what other processes are running on your computer (which includes what they tell the user they are) and runs away if one looks like it might be scary.

Chrome runs each tab as it's own process, with the title of the tab as the title of the process, and YouTube makes the title of the video the title of the tab.

coffy1023 votes

looking is fine, but for them to act upon it. is different.

DrCyanide2 votes

It's fine for them to act on it too, especially considering they're acting in their customer's best interest. The 9 other people in the game don't want to play with a cheater, so League kicks the cheater and they can remake.

coffy1022 votes

i'd have to disagree.

DrCyanide3 votes

Common sense disagrees with your disagreement. If you could only look, but not act, why would you be allowed to look in the first place?

coffy1021 votes

the same reason when u go to a museum you can look but not touch.

DrCyanide1 votes

The museum expects you to change as a result of what you see though. You want the program not to change.

coffy1021 votes

what? the museum expects me to change?... i know people are moved by art. but damn for it to actually change people.

All it does it look at the name of the processes that are currently running, tabs are registered as individual processes. when you watch a youtube video called "cheat engine" the process is essentially named "cheat engine", the client sees this and stops the game.

it would be like if i was the bus driver and i saw someone with pink hair i can deny him/her entry just because i ban the use of pink hair dye on my bus.

i cant cus that would be discrimination, and i dont even have enough evidence.

DrCyanide4 votes

Bad comparison, because there's nothing that implies pink hair is connected with violating the rules and would get many more false positives than legitimate hits. "cheat engine" is very clear intent of breaking the rules.

coffy1021 votes

having pink hair dye is, so having pink hair required you to have pink hair dye at one point in time. i think its a great analogy

so you haveing pink hair, i can assume u have pink hair dye and deny you entry

just like league

i have a tab with the words "cheat engine" on it so they assume im cheating and can deny me entry.

Correct.

coffy1021 votes

thats not right. its just like if they were to deny me entry cus im black when they have white floors.

False analogy much?

It would be more like walking into a **theater **with a gun The gun being "cheat engine" and the **theater **being the Game. If guns aren't allowed, you will not be granted access.

Maybe if the gun was solid plastic/candy ur anaolgy would be better.

Look out guys we've got a badass over here

coffy1021 votes

DrCyanide1 votes

Actually, that's a perfect comparison to what's going on. Because the theater wouldn't allow you to bring in a toy gun that looks enough like a real gun either.

but only at a seconds glance does it. upon closer inspection you can tell thats it obviously fake. and they will allow it ( i have had this exact situation happen to me)

DrCyanide2 votes

And if Riot did a closer inspection maybe they'd allow browser tabs. But they're not doing a closer inspection. You're being asked to put your toy gun back in your car before coming into the theater.

coffy1021 votes

but they dont. they allow you to keep it aslong as it doesnt shoot projectiles.

DrCyanide3 votes

I've never seen a bus deny entry based on what may or may not be at home, only what is with you at the time. That alone shatters your "pink hair comparison".

In contrast, League only cares if you've got a "cheat engine" with you when the game starts. You don't get denied entry for using it when League was closed, you don't get denied entry for opening it after League starts the game.

coffy1021 votes

How would the bus driver know you have it at home? he only knows u have pink hair. and he knows that in order to have pink hair you must have had died it pink.

you get what im saying thats not enough information to deny him/her entry.

BUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT LEAGUE IS DOING HERE.

DrCyanide4 votes

But dying your hair pink isn't a qualification to be kicked off the bus. It isn't an indicator that the person has or will break the rules. It's nothing like what's happening here.

League is specifically looking for evidence that the person is trying to cheat in League of Legends. They used a phrase which is extremely unlikely to be used in everyday tasks (see it only being noticed in Dec 2018, while likely having been there for years), but which is far more common to actual cheaters. In the event they did kick someone out who shouldn't have been, the error message tells them exactly how to prevent an issue with it again (close other programs).

WHAT!?!?!? THIS IS EXACTLY WHATS HAPPNING HERE HAVING PINK HAIR IS A INDICATOR THAT YOU HAVE USED PINK HAIR DYE WITCH IS BANNABLE.

I smell Lawsuits a brewing. [sg-lux-2]

DrCyanide3 votes

A lawsuit by whom?

Privacy advocates wouldn't go for it because they'd lose, since the data is being used to protect the customer experience (by denying cheaters). That's one of the clearest cut "this is a good use for this information" cases there can be.

Cheat Engine writers wouldn't go for it because Riot's already won a lawsuit against League Sharp.

yeah but no where in the TOU does it say they will crash my computer if i have a tab open titled "cheat engine"

"7.1. Does Riot monitor me while using the Riot Services? (Yes. Please read the Privacy Policy to learn more.) The Privacy Policy offers broad terms that include monitoring the names of applications running in the background of your computer. Anything in open file names and browser page titles can be identified by the client when it's open.

coffy1021 votes

no where in there does it say action will be taken. only monitoring.

they cant just make League not respond and in turn lock up my computer, this is partly because the client is soo outdated it causes problems with newer hardware.

but still where does it say they will take actions other than the 4 normal ones (chat restricts and suspensions.)

They can do whatever the fuck they want with their software. If your hardware is so weak that a crashing game requires a restart, that's on you, not the company. Any game that detects cheats WILL shut down, even shitty 2010 games like assault cube

coffy1021 votes

the thing is. there is no cheats. my hardware is not weak at all i have to cap my frames in LoL at 144 or my game crashes b/c LoL doesnt support above 144 hz refresh.

and yes they can do what they want with their software. but not with my computer.

and yes its the company's fault that it crashed. i have reported many bugspats, have the hextech repair tool. and have asked help via the support feature.

What is your dream end-result of this? Do you want the ability to play League with a YouTube video about "cheats" in the background, or are you upset about one specific instance and you're just venting frustration? My guess is it's the latter. This is a smart and very simple way for League to prevent people from trying to cheat. Take the L and move on.

coffy1021 votes

WHEN PEOPLE CAN GET BANNED FOR ONE SPECIFIC INSTANCE I THINK IM NOT JUST VENTING FRUSTRATION THIS IS A ISSUE THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

i want the end result to be that they wont Force close LoL just cus of 2 simple words. but again people can be banned for 2 simple words.

so i guess this shows what kind of company rito is.

The best advice I can give you is: don't try to cheat while playing League and you'll never face any negative repercussions for trying to cheat while playing League.

i wasnt trying to cheat. i was just watching a youtube video that appeared on my suggested feed.

The Privacy Policy listed isn't supposed to monitor that data. Only Hardware and that which is linked to league. Like your facebook. Or if cheat engine was attached to League's client. And regardless of just the words cheat engine disconnecting you there are plenty more out there potentially that to the public are unaware. You may be watching a League custom skin video and not be aware you'll be dced.

From reading this form you go from “it crashed my computer” to “you can get banned for saying two words” and I’m going to have to disagree with everything.

One crashing the computer can be many reasons. A forced update, a bug, another program and so on. Seems to me blaming league is the easiest answer. Like how generally most people have the “it’s not my fault, it’s theirs” mentality. What you say supposedly happened just sounds like your lying to make your case sound more compelling.

Two upon installing league and played game I can safely assume you agreed to the user agreements. You agreed to the terms. Maybe READ them to make a better arguement and if disagree with them THEN DONT HIT ACCEPT. ez. like honestly

Third getting banned for saying to words? Maybe from that game but that’s not the only reason. If you constantly be toxic, leave and flame most of your games expect to be banned. I for one from time to time swear in chat but never banned. That and again you sound like your lying cause you were backed into a corner.

In the end you just sound like a whiny child who was salty (maybe still is idk) they lost a pointless match. It’s one fucking game, cry the fucking internet a river and quit being a bitch. Sorry I shouldn’t swear in front of children.

Good day
