Banning changes
Some of the recent talk has been about the upcoming banning changes, and personally I'm all for them. I look forward to everyone having a chance to take part in the banning process, but there's one thing that I have been wondering for a very long time, and I think now would be a good time to voice it.
To the best of my knowledge the original champion count was 40. Riot implemented 6 bans in the drafting process. So that leaves 85% of the champions available after all banning has been completed. At the end of Season 1 there were 68 champions. That's 91.17% available after bans. Fast forward to today and there's 128 champions, with one on the way. That's 95.34% available.
See the pattern? As the champion count goes up, so does the percent of available champions. This developmental heading is rendering the drafting process increasingly impotent.
Don't you think it's time to implement another ban for each team? 6 bans for 130ish picks is ridiculously low.
Honestly even if the bans were brought up to 8, that would still make it 93.75%. Nowhere near the original percentage, but at least closer to the first couple of seasons. With the champion count showing no signs of slowing down there will come a time where the 6 bans will be akin to taking a bucket of water out of a lake. Don't get me wrong, I love new champs as much as the next guy, but something needs to be done or drafting will be little more than a formality.
