play 10 placement games, at the end of the 10, you'll be placed in some elo loosely based off your mmr after those 10 games, you just play ranked games normally. the first 10 games, and for a little while after, your mmr will jump a lot from wins/losses, until you've gotten enough games to settle around where your actual skill level is.

I'm not sure if season 7 is the same, but in previous seasons, riot's mmr reset wasn't a true reset. They took the average of your mmr and the starting mmr (1200), and that was your new mmr for the beginning of the season pre-placement matches.

so for example if you were at 2000 mmr at the end of the season, next season you would be at (2000+1200)/2 = 1600. The calculations riot used might have been a little bit different, but that was approximately the case.
