Things that I've done in low ELO to turn the games around and start winning

I'm no smurf (clearly), I'm not a fantastic player, as you can see. It's a fresh account and I started Iron 4 from my placements. I tried a lot of things, to be honest. I tried to top lane in preseason, I tried to mid, I tried to ADC and I've even sadly attempted jg from some normals (oof, I'm bad at jungle). I've tweaked about matchmaking, I've ran my MMR into the ground off of me tilting off into narnia... etc. I've gotten chat restricted a few times... But recently I've climbed, and here's what I did:

  1. I snatched up the role people seem to be worst at consistently in every game (support):
  2. By playing support, I either, a. made sure my lane didn't run it down or b. snowballed my adc or c. pinged him to lasthit under tower and roamed
  3. I tried to keep my vision score in the top 20%, rotating wards based on map, pinging objectives, helping jg invade/counter invade
  4. I buy a control ward and set it up for mid instead of early hp pots (i use mana biscuits)
  5. I found a support that can either ap carry or defensive depending on how the game is going (morgana/lux/zyra) and really slimmed down my champion pool.
  6. Muting all chat. There's really no reason to talk to people. You just make them mad and they start to throw on purpose.
  7. A lot of the times I look for win condition other than me and play off that. There's many games I don't carry, but I find who does and make sure I'm playing their game for them. I'll engage, kamikaze myself to start a teamfight that leads them into good picks, try to lean vision towards their side of the map, whatever it is. It ends up with me having a lot of deaths most often, but if I can start a smart, clean engage and know that the person is gonna follow up and ace the team It's worth it.
  8. I studied rotations, wave clears (thx lohpally, proguides, na.op, porofessor, u.gg, summonerschool, and all the twitch frens), wave management!!!, macro game (esp keeping sidelanes past river) and will try to initiate via ping or do it myself. Sometimes it makes me look really dumb, the Morgana pushing sidewaves because my top lane for some reason decides that they are no longer responsible for top whatsoever and nobody takes over, but as long as the waves past the river theyre not in my base.
  9. I started to NA.OP my team and started DODGING (looking at WR was the most effective, or ratings from na.op in mhistory)
  10. I would STOP PLAYING if I was losing 2 or more games and I would KEEP PLAYING on win streaks.
  11. I ceased to blame my team. Someone is going to run it down, someone's going to int, someone's gonna ignore the obvious thing to do, every game. EVERY GAME. It's whatever, I aimed for 60% instead of 100%. I still get mad about matchmaking but what can you do...
  12. Itemization. There's so many times I've seen people on the other team stacking hp regen and nobody gets grievous wounds, or arp, or whatever. I'll ping items for my team, i study item builds from the top players of my champs, and try to implement them the best i can (that glacial/dom build from sentinal or w/e for example)
  13. SOME THINGS TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT LOW ELO: That guy TOP can 1v9 this game. Nobody buys the right items or understands most of the champions (susan, sett, etc). Make sure theyre not doing well, or youre curb stomping so hard w/o them that they have to leave their lane or can't split. IF you can't win team fight, don't team fight, split until they lose. Make sure you don't give them an opportunity to 1v9 that game. The guy mid thinks he can carry, he usually can't carry. In fact, often hes the worst person on your team. Try to snowball him anyway, keep his confidence up he tilts a lot. It's usually you and the jungle crushing it, or maybe you have a solid top laner. Play off those two if you support. Just imho. The amount of games I lose in low elo because of the enemy top laner being a good player blows my mind. Make sure that guy isn't snowballing somehow.
  14. If you do have a good ADC, you need to peel for them. That's all they need. They need you to get stuff off of them. Do that. IT might end horribly for you in the short run, but in the long run that position can carry like crazy in the right hands so long as you do your job.

Yeah, not a big deal that I climbed from iron 4 to silver 4. And it took a lot of games. But I'm not amazing, like I said i'm not some smurf, I'm not mechanically profound etc but it's pretty early in the season and I hope to hit plat some day. So with these things i've maintained a 50%+ on my core (morgana, lux, zyra) and +61% on Morgana, as a support, which I'm pretty proud of, and not recently but in general I've scored a lot of aces and mvp's.

And after studying, it's really amazing all the macro concepts I didn't know, and the things I thought I knew, honestly I was way off. So it really pays off to study from those better than you! Hope this helped and were some words of encouragement. (BTW rito fix your mm pls)

p.s. something about support: support carries, but all too often the person I'm against whether it's auto-fill or who knows, doesn't get it. I guess maybe I get it because I come from wc3 DotA, played regular DotA, etc., but it's like a position 4. You roam. You like, do what needs to be done.

If I can get my ADC an early lead, it's a good matchup, and I see a weakness in either the enemy supp or adc, he doesnt need me. If he does, I'll even come back and gank with jungle. I'll follow jungle to invade, I'll try to gank mid I'll even try to gank top before rift herald. There is a lot of opportunity to succeed with support if you understand or try to understand how you can impact the over all game. People aren't that dumb - offensive/defensive warding really does things. A lot of times i'll end the game with a 90 vision score and my opponent has a 25 visions core like how did they expect to win?

Sometimes, people tilt. They ? ping me, or get a little mad. But here's the deal: if I afk in bot lane with a guy who either won his lane or just got stomped and if he can't freeze a lane against people who don't shove in or farm under tower, then i'm not gonna increase my chances of winning by afking there with him. I need to impact the game. If I won it, great, if it's a lost cause or a stalemate matchup or whatever I'm moving on. With vision security + the JG we can get a lot of things done that might not happen otherwise and certainly wouldnt happen if I idled bot.

ANYWAYS, small rant, but there's a ton of info about climbing from insanely good players. Which is great, I gu ess, and a lot of this is a repeat of what they say (some), but i thought it'd help to reiterate or throw some stuff in there from a not so good player. ;3

Hiddens was a great support for me during my ranked game. I was Draven and he was Morgana, we were against a heavy poke bot with Caitlyn and Karma. He played exactly how aggressive I wanted him to, and after getting me an early lead kill she went mid to help Ryze get fed. He warded well, told us to do objectives, and overall a good macro player as well as micro player. Definitely honored Morgana, he should easily climb out of silver elo.
