Just started playing again and completed my placement...WTH???

So I quit about 7 months ago, but I returned yesterday. Last time I played, I was bronze 3. So I did my placements for this new season, went 7wins 3 losses on the placements, and ...Got placed in bronze five. What??? The first time i ever did placements I won 2 lost 8 and got placed in bronze 2. Now I do pretty much the opposite, having left off slightly above the bottom of the barrel and did much better in my placements and I'm the LOWEST of the low? How is this possible? And why? Seriously riot...7 wins 3 losses and I cant even get bronze 4? What is this.

The game favors you.

its not all about just getting a win its based off your performance and the mmr of your team compared to the enemy team

I did fairly well on every game. I didnt feed, got decent kills and a ton of assists, and my team did well with the exception of the 3 losses.

Your personal performance in a match has absolutely no affect on your MMR or LP gains. The only factor is the perceived difficulty of the match based on the difference in MMR of the teams.

The reason you were placed lower this season than you were last is because MMR is 'soft' reset each season rather than 'hard'. A hard reset will put your MMR back to the initial amount that everyone has as if they've never played Ranked before (even a Challenger will go back down to around Silver), but with a soft reset your MMR merely moves a little towards that.

Basically, your placement is heavily based on where you were last season (10 placement matches can only affect it so much). If you had climbed to Gold you'd probably be placed in high Silver even if you lost every placement, but since you were in Bronze 3 you start near the bottom. If you don't climb up this season either you'll be placed in low Bronze again next season too.

You generally start about a tier below your ranking at the end of the last season.

It shouldn't be too hard to climb back up.

Initial placements are SUPER forgiving. Later seasons place you lower, and make you climb back to where your mmr says you belong. You also get the "joy" of climbing instead of getting placed somewhere you'll just be stuck at.

Well, at least you can't drop any lower right?

I agree with DarkRitual. Initial placements do seem more forgiving. I placed Silver 3 when I first did my placements and I went 7/3. Subsequent placements placed me in the same tier as my previous season tier as well. I kept my mmr consistently high. Even after I quit for awhile and then returned, it still placed me in the same tier as I left off before. Only 1 or 2 divisions below what I left with. Anyway, good luck with the climb. May you climb out and never get stuck at the bottom of the barrel ever again.
