Why are people saying nerf Thresh?

I dont understand why people are saying nerf Thresh. I understand he is the FOTM circlejerk champion right now, but it is really pissing me off because they dont understand its not Thresh as a champion that is overpowered right now. Its the busted Support items right now(Redemption, Locket, Knight's Vow, Ardent Censer). The only change to Thresh recently was in 7.9, which was a minor buff that increased his Magic Resist growth to 0.5 from 0. There have been no changes to him that would drastically affect his winrate right now. But, Riot have recently buffed Support items, the ones that i mentioned earlier. Even the boards have had a couple threads on the front page explaining how busted and overpowered Support items are at the moment.

According to LeagueofGraphs, the top three winrate champions in support right now are Janna, Sona, and Soraka. Squishy champions with tons of utility(Shields, CC, and Heals). If you look into there most popular and highest winrate build paths, after their main Support/Warding item, they buy either Redemption, Locket, or Ardent Censer. Now, if you look into Thresh, someone with tons of CC and a shield, most popular and highest winrate build paths, after his main Support/Warding item, he buys Redemption, Locket, and Knight's Vow. He replaces Ardent Censer for Knight's Vow. Fuck, even Blitzcrank uses Redemption, Locket, and Knight's Vow.

The three highest winrate Support Champions and Thresh have a lot of things in common, they all have Hard CC, Shields, and can Peel for their ADC, either by Disengaging the enemy, Shielding them, or Healing them.

All in all, its the Support Champions with high amounts of Utility that are abusing the overpowered Support items. If you want to pull the argument of nerfing Thresh, you would have to nerf Janna, Sona, Soraka, and Blitzcrank as well, since they are doing the same exact thing Thresh is doing. You can avoid nerfing five supports, by just nerfing the Support items. Thresh as a champion has done nothing wrong to affect his winrate at the moment. Its the busted Support Items that Riot needs to nerf. Especially if its to the point that Bruisers and Tanks in Top and Jungle are buying Knight's Vow(A Support item).

Another thing is, Thresh has always been one of the most popular Supports, with Thresh mains having high winrates on him, and now with the recent overpowered Support items, those Thresh players have even higher winrates, which is why he has such a high pickrate and winrate.

Just because he is the random FOTM circlejerk champion doesnt mean you have the right to talk shit about him and ask for nerfs without giving any information, evidence, or reasoning. It is not Thresh at fault here, it is the Support items.

People always ask for nerfs on champs that require most skill because its hard for them to accept they lost to better player so they put blame on champion

It is just the complaint of the week champion, rationality has nothing to do with it. The best thing you can do is release a rant about the most picked adc right now and it will change over time.

I'm still trying to figure out what people are asking for myself. All I see is a bunch of whiny "nerf Thresh" threads with no real explanation as to what "fixes" they're looking for. I've had Thresh picked against me and we've done just fine while either winning the lane, game, or both. He's not oppressive or cancerous at all. I've lost plenty of matches while using him too. The way people are talking you'd think Thresh is a pick-to-win rofl stomp carry champ right now. If he's that big a deal, they should just ban him. Oh wait, there's other extremely strong champs that can actually carry the game that people would rather ban.

Thresh has been "fotm" for multiple years now. He's been just like Lee Sin who has maintained a ~20% pick rate or higher since their releases. It has nothing to do with support items. His kit just offers too much for a single champion. Also, Thresh's win rate has dropped in recent patches, and even his pick rate. Although his ban rate did increase.

Do you see every champion having an insane win rate+pick rate ratio?

it's not support items, it's thresh

he needs a nerf, most likely base stats nerf thresh was always balanced by his poor base stats, but now it's not enough to balance him anymore he needs even less base stats

mostly base MS nerf from 335 to 325
