What is the algorithm for ranked?

During my last game I was placed in a team where we had 4 golds and one silver. Meanwhile the other team has two plats and three silvers. Something is just not working here guys. Could we please fix this? It kind of makes you feel as if the odds are stacked against you unless you get four to five people to play in ranked together. I sure do miss solo & duo but I understand that there is no sense in trying to improve yourself unless you want to play with friends....

Must of been normals where rank doesn't really matter. Probability that silvers plays with plat is to low

Elo Pendulum. You get a certain # of games placed with higher power teammates but after a # of games or if you win a lot then you start to be placed with lower rank teammates.

Riot has (intelligently imo) decided to hold back their formulas for generating queues.

In theory the average mmr is roughly the same on either side, it's just how that mmr is distributed that can make things feel pretty bad even if it's 'on average' fine.

Kinda like if your feet are freezing and your head is on fire, you're on average at a nice temperature.
