why are people so mean in this game?

when i play as jungle i get called names for not helping someone fast enough for their liking. when i play bottom or middle i get called scrub this and useless that and get told to stick to bots, and when i play top i get yelled at for not taking teleport... i had two people tonight, ask me to join their friends list after a game only to flame me in the chat right afterwards. i dont understand what is wrong with everyone. or is it me? should i just automatically expect all chat to be filled with hateful nonsense all the time? I really dont want to i'd love to have a little fun while playing with other people

Yea, this community is fairly toxic and becomes even more toxic as the years go by because of a few players (which slowly increases)

But there are a lot of people that aren't toxic and just want to have fun. Hopefully you don't run into matches like that a lot.

But I will say, I get similar treatment as support.

If I pick an unconventional support (Rumble, Nasus, Mordekaiser), I get GG Troll Support or other more rude comments (haven't gotten the Go Kill yourself comment...only one I need for a Bingo XD).

And if I play the more conventional supports (Thresh, Braum, Bard, Tahm, etc...), I'll get flames because i'm not playing or building the way they want me to... Even if how I am building and playing helps the team more than the way they want me to.

It's because the Internet is full of angry people who don't get enough sunshine. And League requires the Internet to function.

Don't blame League. The League community is just a microcosm of a whole online world. Blame the Internet at large.

the thing that upsets me is that there are alot of people that are bad at this game, however you define that... like ill bet EVERYONE is bad compared to one of the professional players. so why is it a problem? arent people used to seeing bad players? shouldnt it be...oh well this person was better than you, lets move on to the next game?

It's just human nature to be selfish and to blame other people for mistakes.

Combine that with the anonymity the Internet provides, and you have a lot of cowardly people who are suddenly bullies because you won't know the difference.

this is game is more toxic than most because of the time commitment required to win a game. It aint fun joining up and knowing you're gonna lose but you can't lose just yet

This is what the problem is. There are 2 types of players in league those that want "fun" and those that play to be competitive. This is a larger problem of society instead of the internet. Fun comes from people that got participation awards handed out and were told that as long as they played it was good enough, results do not matter.

Others like me have been taught that it is wrong not to put all your effort into something and try your hardest. It is ok to lose but you better put forth your best effort. When people freak out it is out of a perceived of lack of trying on who they are freaking out on. You may be doing X and they think that is troll and so you are hurting them. Not that they are right, but that is how they see it.

When the two worlds crash it can not be pretty. Fun players tend to be sub-optimal : desire the experience a strategy even if know to be bad, go with a theme or static build, or not be focused out side there world of game play. Any one of these 3 things can be consider an insult to a player going for the win.

Lastly the words "fun' and "game" are not mutually inclusive (especially how the league community uses them) and you are probably not using them with the correct literal meaning. Depending on where you grew up or family dynamics there be a lesser or heavier meaning on the word use.

that is..a very enlightening explaination! I think i would definately fall on the side of a fun player lol. I understand that it is a competitive game, but it should never get in the way of the actual enjoyment you get from playing.

like I see in the beginning of the match everyone picking heroes, counterpicking based on the enemy, freaking out over bans and team comp and who needs to tank and ALL of that. I dont get into that at all. i dont even pay attention to what the enemy picks most the time. if I have to ban its usually veigar or ahri because I hate them both lol. I pick the same few heroes that I like, and thats about it im pretty happy playing like that.

and i do win a good amount of matches, and when i preform well its like...pretty good. so i know i can compete on SOME level. but its only when i do poorly that everyone freaks out. I have also noticed that you hardly ever get complimented for doing well. only redfaced insults for being bad.
