BE compensation - what riot did right and wrong
TLDR: riot should compensated base on how long you have played league
Hi everyone, i usually a long time lurking to this subreddit and on board. I rarely post but after seeing many thread either complaining or defending the transition to BE and the compensation system to either new player and veteran, I have to make one my own and dive into the reasoning behind them and discuss what riot did right and wrong here. Please feel free to add your opinions as well in the comment or point out any mistake that i can potentially make. What riot did right . They turn the grinding system (IP) to a gambling system (loot boxes) - There are 2 elements to make people addicted to something, and one of them is gambling element. The randomness of rewards you get makes you want to keep trying. This is a clever way of modern gaming and they take full advantage of that. . They listen to feedback and actually trying to change the game that cater to players. Nothing much to talk about here. I just want to show the appreciation that riot keep destroying our memes ok, im not gonna go too much into this part because we all know what riot did right. Here is what you come here for What riot did wrong You probably saw a dozen of thread stating that the compensation system they about to implement (on reddit and on boards) is fucking bad. For the most part of their arguments, I completely agree with those complains. They leave veteran players in the dust (who again, were the one make leagues as big as it is now). However, they have their reason: making money. They cant give you more free stuffs. Now , im not entitle to have more from what they offers, but I want to point out how poorly they executed the idea. They try to make everyone equal to each other. This thing is like trying to make communism great again. (hint: it's fucking not, taking from an Asian here). Every player are not equal. Some played from beta, some joined in season 1,2,3,4,5,6 (whatever the number here). The players who start and stick with LOL through up and down for the past 8 years should be the players you should appreciate the most. This lead to the next point, is when you make these players have the same cut with someone who join in season 6, (or someone from season 1 vs s6, or from s2 v s6..., you get my point) you bet your asses they gonna be vocal. It is a simple psychology response. Of course they gonna feel under-appreciated. Now , to my 2nd major point : The amount of BE compensate for runes. Same shit, they try to make everything equal , again. Why would you do that ?? Let me give you a hypothesis scenario that riot should have had here: They announced runes reforged and BE blah blah, except they divided the compensation system base on how long you have played the game. You play from beta: 1 tier 3 rune worth 150 BE 1 tier 3 quint worth 200BE you played from season 1: 1 tier 3 rune worth 125 BE 1 tier quint worth 175BE you played from season 2: 1 tier 3 rune worth 100 BE 1 tier quint worth 150BE ..... You see the pattern here ? If riot do compensation base on how long you have playing LOL, i bet your ass no one will complained. Everyone will "feel" fair. if I happen to be new to LOL, why would i feel mad when the veteran players get more stuffs ? If I happen to be a player from season 1, I "feel" exclusive and my "investment" is returned better than newer players. And the best new for riot ?** The net BE giving out are exactly the same as if u treat every one equally.** You dont lose money and every one feel fair. Too bad, they already gave out the amount of BE compensation, adjusting them now might cause some unwanted side reaction. This, I dont know for sure, but since riot is a big company with a huge man power behind it, im sure they can figured a right number to adjust. What do you think ? let me know. I am not a new player but also not a veteran player by any mean. I start playing when darius was announced. No idea how long that was.
