How aggressive is too aggressive for a support?

I prefer playing supports to any other role and I main Zyra. I do really well at the beginning of the game by setting off seeds to stall the minion line until my adc can kill them. Then we can push to the enemy turret rather easily. However, often my plants will kill minions or I'll be standing a bit back and my auto will kill a minion and my adc will get mad at me. Also, sometimes I can snare and kill the enemy instead of letting them run off, but then my adc doesn't get the kill (even if it was impossible for them to get it) and they yell at me. I don't know if it's because Zyra is a nontraditional support that I play like this, but I feel if I don't play aggressive and push, I lose the lane. If I do play aggressive and push but my adc doesn't, we sometimes lose sometimes win the lane, but my adc blames all of their deaths later in the game on me not giving them every single minion and kill. If we're both aggressive, the lane is an easy, fast win and my team usually always wins.

When I play like this I often get complaints from my whole team saying I'm being too aggressive for a support, but the minute I stop playing like this we start losing. So how much is too aggressive for a support to be played?

Walking up and taking free damage while achieving nothing

I hold the controversial opinion that only people with good support effects (like sona or soraka or braum) should be played support. They don't go too aggressive, and still get to have fun.

Try a main support sometime. You'll do a better job supporting your team than if you just play as a damage character.

did you try a support that can zone and poke but doesn't autopush? there are plenty.

You're still only level 29, have fun with your Zyra and mute the players who complain about you.

when you are standing in the enemy base while all T1s are still standing that is too agressive for example

You should play at the pace your adc wants to. even if you don't get the last hit, attacking the minions messes up the wave and how it's being controlled and you miss opportunities to deny xp/gold from the enemy, map pressure, etc. As far as getting the kill, I've seen too many people get away because I tried to let someone else get the last hit. Attack until dead unless it's very obvious someone else can secure it.

I'd also suggest taking exhaust instead of heal when playing support

I some what feel like your taking it a little too hard. If you have to chose between securing a kill or letting the enemy go, always secure the kill, and if the ADC wasn't in position to secure it themselves, that is on them. (Though Zyra's plants had been nerfed so that they no longer prioritize champs. Just try to make sure enemy champs are the closest thing to your plants.)

Secondly, always play to your champion's strengths. If your playing Zyra, you are their to be aggressive. You might pick a different support if you wanted more utility or protection. But if your Zyra, play aggressively. Also, since you are that aggressive support which can act as a second APC, it's not actually horrible that you end up with Kills. Not necessarily optimal, but a kill on Zyra is better than a kill on Raka.

Kill as whatever you can without dying. Support getting the kill > enemy getting away.

When you walk up, take a chunk of damage, hit them, and realize you took more damage than you dealt by a moderate margin...slow your shit down.
