[feedback] masteries on pbe

so, i commented on 2 threads about this aleady, one on the euw and one on the na boards, ill post them here(only slightly reformatted) to start this off before i go into a suggestion on how to improve the situation while trying to keep what riot is trying to do:

first:

at first i thought i like the new masteries, but there are some glaring problems i see now which make them really horrible actually: you are forced too much to choose between some things while you are simultaneously forced to take some things. this might seem like a contradiction at first but when you try to make pages for certain champs you will quickly realise it.

i hate that its impossible to put all points into one tree (e.g. 30 in defence).

i hate that i am not allowed to take increased attack speed AND incresed ability damage.

i hate that i am forced to take "dangerous game" and "secret stash" on every offence-page. it is so stupid that things like dangerous game were a choice and that it was funny to see biscuits on some people with the season 5 masteries but in season 6 EVERYONE will have it, on EVERY champion in EVERY game with very few exceptions.

one can see the way the guys responsible for the masteries were thinking when making them: "when youre an adc you will take this path and at the end you will decide bloodlust and fervor, and when youre an apc you will take that path" but that only works for the generic versions of champs.

why cant i customise for hybrid champs?

what if you are attack speed magic damage?

why am i forced so often to choose between two masteries of which i want NEITHER?

why did you take away so many of the different mastery effects forcing me into generic choices instead of allowing me to customise my tree for each and every champion i play?

it is sad to see that while the marksman reworks make the champs themselves much more differentiated, i am now forced to take the same exact mastery trees for multiple champions where i had a different tree for each of them before, when they were so much more similar...


and the second on a threa who said he liked the new masteries:

thats what i thought too, at first... then i realised that basically every form of playstyle differntiation has been majorly shafted. want to play magic damage attack speed or physical damage burst? nope, our masteries are tailored for physical damage attack speed and magic damage burst.

want to get attackspeed AND spelldamage on azir? nope, you are not allowed to opt out of defence/utility in favour of your own choice!

playing aatrox? you are not allowed to get lifesteal AND ad!

want to play something tanky without relying on the most boring but most effective stat: flat max hp? we dont care, youre not allowed to get regenration or tenacity AND resistances

what about hybrid builds? haha, no, we already told you you have to CHOOSE between battering blows and piercing thoughts even though you would be willing to pay the points there insted of unlocking some tier 2 keystone in another tree you dont want!

want to spec all your points into one tree? nope, instead waste points on masteries you do not want, not only in another tree, but also by forcing you to choose between bad and worse to get to something totally unrelated (want the execute damage increase? choose between runic affinity and secret stash first! you dont want either? tough luck, no damage for you. want to spend all your points for defensive increases? nope you gotta spend 40% into either damage or random shit!)

you had widely differing mastery pages for many different mages in season 5? "rejoice", you have only one valid path for ALL the mages!

there were situations and champions where going something like 0/15/15, 13/17/0 or 9/14/7 was a good choice in season 5? please, everything has been "streamlined" and condensed down to 18/12/0 and its permutations with the ultra exceptional 6/18/6 somewhere! no need for needless thinking! ... its better to let people make tradeoffs by choosing in WHICH tree and WHICH bonus-combinations they put their points instead this meaningless limit of 18 points per catgory and pointless exclusion of stat-combinations. (and by that i do NOT mean i want multiple tier 3 keystones, that those are exclusive is a GOOD idea, the rest of the forced shit NOT.)


so how to solve this issue? easy, gives us three choices in every tier, with the choice to spend 5 to unlock but up to 10 points per odd level and 1 to unlock but up to 2(except for the tier 3 of course) per even level to a maximum of all 30 points in one tree. there should be more than enough different masteries in the current season 5 trees to fill everything up.

just make sure to give us DIFFERENT enough choices PER LEVEL, no such cases where you might want all of them on one level (like its the case for the odds in the ferocity tree) and none of them on another (like its the case for the evens in the cunning tree)! from the current masteries i especially miss spell weaving, blade weaving and arcane blade for effence, evasive, reinforced armour and perceverance from defence and expanded mind from utility(the mana "buffs" on champions(net 1 max mana on level 18) dont really cut it...)

uhm hybrid champs have the cunning tree and the start of the offensive tree.

Example Akali

Wanderer(for roaming), secret stash(early sustain),merciless(assination power), precision(hybridpen you get 8 of each at level 18). Thunderlords decree(burst) or Stormsurge(escape)

Sorcery(dmg), double edged sword(dmg), natural talent(both ad and ap) and bounty hunter for snowball.
