*NEW PATCH* Combo Execution Inquiry (Katarina)

Hi, I recently discussed this very shortly with a Rioter via ticket. With all the new content coming out in League, they have finally shun some light on us players with higher ping. If you haven't heard, Riot will now allow for players to execute rapid combos for mechanic-based champions. Though, some may call it "button-smashin'" mechanics that require perfect timing, and sometimes higher ping may prevent the perfect play make due to very minimal delay. Or, in some cases, you're a master at your champion, and preforming combos is like second-nature but some of your actions may not register due to your champion currently preforming an ability; but this update will allow your next ability to complete as soon as your prior action is completed. (e.I., Casting Q as Lee Sin, and the moment it is cast, he automatically jumps to your target without awkward delay due to your uncontested finger-smashing speed or ping)

Now, to draw in Katarina players. Do you folks feel as though Katarina's Shunpo has an awkward delay in between resets? I understand the excuse behind giving the enemy opponent a split-second reaction time to Flash, but that was a valid excuse prior to the rework on Irelia. To clarify, Irelia's Q has little (if any) cooldown, and there is absolutely not delay in her ability to jump from target to target. Perfectly farming her CS in a timely manner. Well, why can't Katarina's Shunpo, which is described in her ability as an instant blink, do what Irelia's Q dash do?

My concern is if whether that patch update will include Katarina's E to enable smoother gameplay, I know not everyone in Riot has Katarina down to a core and what her quirks may be, but I want to hear from avid Katarina mains, and what they feel about her awkward reset delay between Shunpo-victim targets. If Irelia can do it, why not Kat? She is a combo-based champion after all, and this is a combo-based update.

TL;DR: Why can't Katarina's instant blink function like Irelia's smooth Q? It's not like Katarina has infinite mobility like Irelia's dash in between targets.

  • Also, I can see that Kat's blink is longer distance, but one: it's not infinite reset; ridiculous cooldown. Two, Irelia's dash is NOT short distance, it has crazy unit range advantage.

I have been saying this and waiting for this for too long.. They cut her damage, but did not revert her clunky ''reset'' back. I think it's time they did.

Thanks for commenting! I 100% agree, and feel as though it's not Riot's fault. Technology gets better over the years, and Irelia's Q coding that allows her to instantly dash smoothly is a prime example of how far they've developed. I just wish it was implanted into Kat's E, too. No reason a dash should be quicker than a blink. )-:

If you're talking about the cooldown on Shunpo in early levels, it can be annoying to deal with but I don't mind. However that has nothing to do with what they were talking about. A good example on Katarina of what they were talking about is for example sometimes you E>W, but your W performs first. In cases like this, with the work they're doing to fix problems like this, you should always E, then W, if you input the E first. If this is fixed, then those awkward moments where Katarina casts her Preparation before she Shunpos onto a target, despite you pressing E first, should not happen anymore.

The cooldown on E though, is entirely different. And while it's frustrating to deal with, your Q damage isn't the biggest part of your damage output so if you wanted a shorter E CD, you could max E first(I do, but I build and play her differently than everyone else).

No, although you are correct on the issue that sometimes W casts before her E goes off, which screws up your combo. I was implying her awkward spaghetti code where he E doesn't go off the millisecond it goes off cooldown. But Irelia's Q can be instantly used after it's up again. Every half a second in League matters, it may not seem like a big deal for non-Kat players, but time-sensitive combo plays need this patch update. I'm wondering if Kat's awkward E reset(s) will be fixed, and insist they do.

I've never had this issue that I can think of. I've always been able to E directly after it comes up.(to the point that if I kill someone with E I can immediately E again), so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.
