@Meddler, what about Varus?

Straight to the point, I'd like to hear what are your thoughts and opinions about Varus.

Right now I don't see him neither in a good nor in a bad shape, he can be scary as ADC and as Midlaner time to time and the change to his ultimate did help a lot concerning initiations. Yet the feel I get by playing him and seeing other Marksmen/women is that he didn't get many new things to play with comparing to the others. He already had a defined niche of the "AD Caster Carry" but this didn't get amplified by the update and right now Jinx feels a far better example of that category expecially since her casts have more immediate effects compared to his.

Varus is one of the champions meant to remain shit tier so he doesn't step on the shoes of Vayne/Lucian/Trist/Jinx/Kalista.

Why do you think they rarely touch him? and when they do it's usually minor things. They've said in the past that "The meta doesn't fit him, or the itemization is limited for him" now the meta has changed a lot and we have new items and he is still trash.

I mean look at how they reworked Tristana who was dominating when Varus wasn't even seeing play in the mid lane, then after that they buffed her even more in pre season into a far more powerful champion who is still dominating to this day.

MF has gotten 365583068903689063 changes, to the point where she is broken as fuck when she was in the same state as Varus currently.

It's clear who Riot favors, and Varus isn't one of them.

Riot loves to ignore Varus I'm just thankful they don't hate him like Evelyn or sona or Cassiopia

Except Eve has had like 5 reworks and both Sona and Cass got pretty significant reworks though not complete changes.

Sona's "change" was just one big NERF.Cassiopia's change was the worst update in this games history.Ev has all those changes because they hate her they hate to see her viable every time she has seen play she gets Nerfed to the ground then changed and the cycle repeats.

He's strong only because he has poke and great utility. His kit is all over the place. He needs a focus, and his focus should be blight stacks and his whole "corruption" theme. Having his Q just be a typical poke and waveclear ability doesn't fit with his thematic. Neither does his passive.

"The whistle you hear is not the wind"

This quote (from his comic preview) had lot of power and I think that his Q is also a signature move.

Right now he has a lot of potential because his kit gives him a lot of freedom, he has inbuilt Grevious Wounds, hard/soft CCs and anti tank mechanics but anything of it seems to have flavor and this makes him a rather plain character that can make a whole team retreat if fed and protected. I would make him more combo based without the need to unleash a full one to be dangerous, a full one should mean sure death no matter who you are. This to make up for his fragility and inability to jump out of fights by his own.

This is probably his gratest let down, he is more easily shut down than other ADCs and has harder time to shut down others if not already in a decisive advantage.

I think that it would be cool if he was the true imobile poke adc. As it stands now, all the adcs that have solid poke also have mobility so their poke doesn't get to be as strong as say xeraths or other poke mages. Granted nidalee breaks this rule of poke and mobility but her spears are really easy to dodge now and don't wave clear well from a distance. In varus's lore he held of an entire noxian army from the temple he was gaurding with his arrows so it would fit him thematiclly. The thing is, the main thing that makes him not just a poke champ is his w but that is where the corruption part of his character comes in so they can't just get rid of it. I like varus as a whole, I've just kinda wished there was a non jayce option for a heavy poke ad champ, comparable to people like xerath in some way. Maybe it isn't a good fit but it would be nice.

There are many AD caster carries who fit the gameplay archetype a lot better than Varus (e.g. Ezreal, Lucian or Corki), particularly since the power of Varus's spells is meant to rely on heavy autoattacking. Right now, he gets to rise from time to time as a poke machine, but he could otherwise do with a much tighter kit: his passive is super-lame, his on-hit W magic damage is not all that interesting (there might be an AP Varus build out there somewhere, but it should probably done in a manner that doesn't just give AD Varus 26 free on-hit damage), and his E is a little backwards, since you want to lay it down at the start of fights for the slow and Grievous Wounds, but then miss out on a means of detonating Blight later on. I personally think his shining strength is his ability to hold the entire enemy front line at bay and melt them from a distance, and I think he should have more emphasis placed on the reach and control presented by his abilities, even if it comes at the cost of raw squishy-popping damage.

His passive needs a change, that's a given, he is the only ADC to have such an unreliable steroid on auto attacks expecially since to get the most benefit you must have scored a kill/assist. It would be a huge QoL if the 20% part would proc on ability hit/use rather than minion kill so that he can make a use of it at will rather than waiting for a minion wave or stopping to AA a creep.

Honestly what I would do is dragging the Blight Quiver stack as his passive and give W an active to either boost his other abilities effects (based on Blight stacks?) or give him an increased attack range.
