@ricklessabandon My Azir Suggestions
As we all know, Azir is probably getting quite the change: -Shurima's Legacy ( Passive ) no longer grants Will of the Emperor (bonus 1.25% Attack Speed for every 1% of Cooldown Reduction) -Arise! ( W ) now has a new passive: Gains 20/30/40/50/60% attack speed. -Shifting Sands ( E ) - no longer knocks up enemies.
And with no idea when the next patch will launch, I'm hoping that someone takes a look at my suggestions and reasons for my personal stance against the set of changes I'm not too happy about (his passive being scraped and reworked onto his W)
My suggestion for his passive (as of right now in patch 5.13) I suggest one of two paths:
- Keep it on his passive (Will of the Emperor remains) and have it scale as he levels. This would mean instead of a flat 1.25% AS per 1% CDR, it would say grant 0.50% AS per 1% CDR and move forwards as he levels up in the game until a reasonable amount is met (say level 16 it becomes 1.25% AS per 1% CDR). Players won't have to make the choice of Q or W, and it isn't as harsh in the beginning stages of the game for his opponent should Azir be granted blue buff, or any other form of CDR.
- Move "Will of the Emperor" onto his W as planned but instead of the flat AS buff, grant higher levels of AS per CDR as it levels until it reaches some form of reasonable level. This could look like 0.65/0.80/0.95/1.10/1.25% AS per 1% CDR (numbers are your choice). Doing this is giving the players of choice as on the current PBE to decide whether they want more damage from Q or more AS from the W.
A third choice could also be added to either one or the current and that is to take a lesson from the design of Yasuo with his crits. Instead of allowing Azir the 40% hardcap, give him a lower one instead. Have Azir only able to reach 30-35% CDR or so, in hopes that it could tune down his late game some.
My goals with this suggestion are simple, to keep the build options for Azir. Nashor's is an item some people put onto Azir (often building stinger, leaving it, and not finishing it until the final choice). I happen to like this (having Nashor's on Azir). It gives him some choice as to become a hyper carry or build around his many options to help his team. I don't watch LCS, but I know from looking at Azir that he has different options to fit within the game.
When I viewed the potiential changes, one of the first comments I saw (besides the others complaining about the removal of both shield and knockup) was that they could substitute NT for another item. While this could be a hidden goal behind your thoughts Riot, it could open up some more future issues with Azir. Would the removal of players attaining 40% CDR to reach that max AS be the best for him or no? Azir commands his soldiers, and needs to reposition them quickly as possible as to react to the enemy's movements. Removing the 40% could also arise an issue of Azir being able to build another item in its place of NT for something more tanky. Soon Azir could become the emperor who has enough beef to stay standing from the enemy's assaults.
Now those are views I could see arising and would like to add a personal bit: To me, Azir has his unique build as a mid-lane mage that no one else really has. It gives him flavour. Who else rushes 40% CDR to get AS so that their pseudo-auto attacks can punish their opponent more? Azir doesn't build like a Vel'Koz may, a Cho'Gath, a Lux, Ekko, or anyone else. Azir is unique, and I feel the removal "Will of the Emperor" will just place him as another mid-lane mage with fancy mechanics.
So TL;DR suggestions:
- Have Azir's passive scale within the game as he levels (begins 0.50% AS per 1% CDR and have it grow from there)
- Move "Will of the Emperor" onto his W and have it look like 0.65/0.80/0.95/1.10/1.25% AS per 1% CDR possibly
- Maybe also add a lower hardcap of CDR for Azir with 30-35% CDR being his maximum.
I really like the design of Azir, his Will of the Emperor is one of the things that stands out the most to me as a unique trait of his character in-game. Please have a look at these suggestions and speak amongst yourselves on what could be and should be done with Azir.
