I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I think Riot may have bashed Ahri a little too hard. Yes, they did revert her E to amplify damage from her other abilities, but the rest of her kit feels rough. I think that getting rid of the movement speed of her Q and making it a passive was a great change! However, her Q feels like it really doesn't do anything until you have your first item (I usually rush a Luden's, correct me if I should be going another path.) and it just feels rough in lane. By this I mean that it feels as if every time I throw out a Q just to snag a few low health minions, it just barely hits them and then they are taken down by my own minions and then my cs becomes trash. I know this sounds whiny and that I should "practice more with new Ahri", but to be honest I've played Ahri almost 4 years now and she just feels rough. I still do not understand why her W needed to be touched since it is not a huge part of her kit. However, I do understand nerfing her ult since those bolts could sometimes do a little too much damage.

Before I get down voted or yelled at, I would just like to point out that I do agree with Riot. I agree that Ahri was too safe of a pick in almost every game since she could easily farm and escape lane ganks with her Q. However, I think that they really hit her too hard. She was always in a good spot and all, but the nerf on her damage in general was just rough for laning with. And I am aware that her E does increase damage by 20%, but how many times are you really going to try to throw out a charm during lane unless you KNOW you can land it.

If anyone would like to share what they think, please do! However, do not get mad with me I'm simply just trying to find if anyone agrees with me. Because honestly, I went from maining Ahri to being a top lane main and that is a scary place within itself. Anyways, please write back to me! I'd love to talk about this and even make a few friends along the way.

(Also, I included Ahri's statistics to show how much she has dropped in general.)

The site you use matters so much when looking for stats.

https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/ahri http://champion.gg/champion/Ahri/Middle https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Ahri/

Here are some important points I've picked up from the graphs.

  1. She's at her worst in higher tier play. This suggests that riot's changes either weren't enough or she lost too much safety.
  2. It seems like she has a very low skill floor; anyone can pick her up and play her well in a few games.
  3. It seems like she has very few mains. So whatever riot is doing to her isn't putting her in a spot where people want to keep playing her.
  4. I feel like she falls off too hard in the late game.
  5. Her low ban rate means no one really cares about playing against her. This also suggests riot's changes weren't far enough or she lost too much safety.
  6. For an assassiny-mage I feel like she doesn't do enough damage.
  7. Riot keeps changing her so I'm not sure if they know what they want out of her. She used to be miss popular, but she isn't anymore. Nor is she that good, but she isn't bad either.
  8. I feel like she's not good enough at either farming up or getting kills overall. She's okay at both which makes her safe, but she's not great at either. Together it makes it hard for her to impact the game as she lacks gold. TBH I think her biggest issue is that: she's got no really reliable way for a skilled player to easily get fed either through farming or kills compared to other mids.

Both of Ahri's passives are pretty weak. The new Vastayan Grace was just something that was rushed to ship the new changes it feels like, and the movespeed it gives is very unnoticeable. Essence Theft was essentially nerfed pretty hard even if it happens more often now with just three spell hits instead of 9.

I'm not too sad the movement speed is gone on Ahri's Q, but my problem with it is that Q's damage feels super bad right now. I say that because Celerity gave a good boost to Q's damage, because of the movespeed passive. However, now that Q doesn't have a movespeed passive, we lose out on a lot of extra damage on Q, which I've still been feeling in my matches. Ahri should have got a compensation buff to her Q damage. Sure, Q has true damage, but still after losing the damage on Celerity there is no other option for Ahri to take to get the missing AP. Absolute Focus is super unreliable and not something I want to take.

Ahri's W damage is also still really really bad. It's a trash tier ability. However, it has gotten easier to land W, since the mini-rework which is nice.

As a long time Ahri main, I feel the changes didn't help Ahri enough in certain areas. I hope Riot takes the time needed to look at Ahri's weak passives, W, and Q's damage.

I know the gameplay designers disliked Ahri being able to stop dashes with charm, and that it was inconsistent with other types of CC causing them to remove it, but I really would like that ability to outplay something with charm again. I love the damage amplification on charm, but it's not the same as when you'd charm a LeBlanc or Yasuo dashing right at you and thinking they were going to kill you, when you could actually outplay them by stopping their dash and the potential damage coming at you. That was really truly what I enjoyed on Ahri, and why I started playing so much in earlier seasons. I find the LeBlanc and Yasuo matchups pretty hard now, and super stressful because of how unforgiving it is to make a single mistake against those champs.

Personally, I understand what you're saying. I can't go 20/1 on her anymore, and every time I pick her I get plagued by Xerath Brand

But..... I still feel safe on her. I just can't.....stop my team from feeding with her. I can be in the same fight as them, skilling away.... taking chunks of HP, but.....it seems like my team can't use it. It kind of feels like I'm supporting rather than assassinating.

But.... I don't think it's because Ahri's weak. I think it's because other mages have much bigger hits, online much earlier, on lower cooldowns. Her lane phase has turned from "reasonable" to "I can only get 6 of 10 CS because i'm getting outpoked/harassed in my cs bully by someone with larger hits." When Xerath is spamming, and can accurately and quickly take large chunks of your hp, it kind of disrupts your ability to play the lane, even with her Q heal.

I can try to duel these two champs.... but it's a crap shoot. if they survive everything because of a single misplay, Brand will just stun you, and Xerath will just kill you after you retreat with his R.

I'm pulling 67%, but it's more because I'm not a burden to my team than me being a carry mage/assassin.

I think another factor is.... the Bounties change. It's pretty hard to last hit team kills as a Ahri because of her Q's long path, W's unreliable aiming, and the fact engages begin with her E. She usually always got Ks'd in team fights, but in the old bounty system, that was still good Gold. New Bounty System: Ahri gets little gold at all from assisting kills. Which means she has to rely more heavily on csing.

.... Which means she gets to gank less. .... Which means she gets less kills/assists. .... Which means her kit which is notorious for "almost" killing cs puts her slightly behind opponents.

I mean...... if I want laner type gold on Ahri in a 8/4/16 game, I literally have to spend 80% of the game in a lane farming CS. And then I'm still 4000 gold less than the 16/8/7 Yi jungler...... because he picks up all those 660 Gold shutdowns....

I doubt riot will buff her Q since they hate champions having wave clear now but something needs to be done so Ahri isn't a push over levels 1-5.

Make her Orb and Charm travel faster, buff Charm damage if they are too scared to make W a real spell (meanwhile MOTHER ****** Zoe W is the same thing but stronger damage and actually has utility on top of that) lower her spell cast timings ANYTHING.

Ahri is the first champion I brought when I joined league in 2013 and now after so long I give up on her, if I play her it's going to be in games I don't care about winning, even if I get autofilled to mid (I main support/adc since the start of this season) I'll be more likely to pick Azir than touching her in any of my solo queue games till something is done.

Thank you so much for the fast reply! I'm so glad someone else can feel the pain in her Q and W. I feel like they kind of beat her when she down because just before the rework, she wasn't in the best of places. However, she's dropped down to 3rd tier and it's honestly so sad. I have to agree, I feel like they did kind of did rush the rework. I follow FF20 a lot and they kept talking about Ahri changes, but they didn't actually act on it for a few patches. Maybe they were being rushed due to other things in the game, but they really should've given Ahri at least a little bit of love. After all, she is a very popular champion.

Also, I do miss the outplays with charm as well! There is nothing more satisfying than stopping a Shyvana ult or an Akali in mid dash! However, I can understand that the developers wanted to get rid of that because it was when Ahri was GOOD. But now that she is bad, I wish they would give back the opportunity to save her nine tails (heh.) since she is so weak. It totally does feel like her counters and her skilled matchups have turned into just unstoppable forces. LB was always kind of rough, but matchups like Yasuo and Zed are just awful. It's too bad honestly, I wish they would return her to being a kite mage. I like that they tried to make her an assassin again, but it's just not good. I'm hoping for a buff soon.. But it will probably only happen when they hear pro players complain about her. :( [sg-ahri-1]

Here is some further commentary on the current state of Ahri.

Even pros think she's in a bad spot. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/267683412?t=10h12m48s

The site you linked has her at a ~50% win rate and a high pickrate. She has also been one of the top picks for several years. There are champions that are legitimately doing bad now. Ahri is not one of them.

Ahri. Ahri! Ahri this champion has been riots ever lasting statue of a midlane mage. But guess what was shot down.Azir

No Riot has been consistently gutting mid lane APs since Ahri actually. Look at what they did to Azir and Taliyah.
