Runes Reforged: a possible STRONG way to redefine the role of support

Hi everyone! Since i played support i had this idea that this role is actually in a weird spot, compared to the other four. I don't want to go through all the changes, patch by patch. Now supports have a good identity and nice items too, but there is still something missing... At the start of the game, support spend 375g to have a gold income, and a little bit of stats, when every other role can just last-hit minions or farm in the jungle to earn gold. Usually a support has little to no decisions to make for the strarting item, with some exceptions (Thresh?). Then, as the game goes on, usually a support spends 800g on a sightstone, 500g for a decent gold income (and a little bit of stats) or boots. If you get an early lead with another role, you have access to items that let you do your job better. Supports usually spend early gold in surviving from ganks (often Warding Totems aren't enough for this porpose), gold income or mobility, and not becoming more "supporty".

This is my idea for giving to supports the strong identity they deserve, using the incoming Runes system. The point is to create three "minor" runes for supports, like this:

  • The champion gains no gold from last-hitting minions for the first 10 mins of the game (i don't know if 10 mins is enough, could be more, it's just to give you an idea)

  • The champion has a gold income mechanic. Like the actual Favor/Tribute/Spoils of War passives, based on the path of the rune (for example: if the path is Sorcery, this rune would give you the Tribute passive)*

  • The Sightstone is aviable for the champion AS A TRINKET. **

  • Having this runes as "minor", let you take it in the secondary path. This gives more freedom on choosing the primary path, but can lead to have 2 gold-income passives. For this reason could be used a charge system for all the passives, that u can use with one of the passives u have. This let you to have more choiches on how to use these charges, but having two passives ins't totally worth.

** Giving the sightstone for free, as a trinket, sounds like a bad idea, but consider that these runes have strong weaknesses. Removing the health bonus, and granting some update, increasing the number of wards and the gold income, freely, based on the player level. The porpose of having the sightstone as a trinket is that supports could spend gold on "supporty items" rather than a "must-have item" from the start of the game. This would give a nice reward if you win hard in the laning phase, and a little advantage if you gained a little lead (something like the other roles).

The goal is to crate a role that uses a strong trade, not gaining gold from the minions but having the sightstone for free from the start (the others can still buy it for 800g, in my idea), to have a very defined purpose in the team. What do you think? Could be a bad thing, or a good thing. To me is an idea for improving the state of supports in general.

I would phrase your idea of a Sightstone-trinket rune as "increase the amount of charges on your trinket," and I think that, and other trinket-modifying runes are a great idea! The potential benefit we would be aiming for is to let supports get that sixth item slot late game, but I'm not sure if it would, especially if you consider that most supports nowadays are getting the "Eye" items to combine their gold income with their sightstone. Possibly the old Eleisha's Miracle pardigm could be useful. Instead of just starting with a gold income passive and a sightstone, or gaining one after ten minutes, the champion could gain all the effects of the item and consume the item after a certain number of levels or minutes. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Eleisa's_Miracle
