Suggested Item: Relic Shield for Thresh on Summoner's Rift makes no sense

I don't understand why Riot recommends Relic Shield for Thresh on Summoner's Rift. He attacks as a ranged champion, so he can only produce the heal/gold share if he gets a real last hit on the creep. If he doesn't get a real last hit he affects the lane partner's last hit timing and neither of them get the gold or the heal. Its a total troll item choice for this champ. Thresh performs much better as a support with the Ancient Coin which can still be built into wards if the player wants health or it can be built into the speed item if the player wants armor. Ancient coin is far superior for this champion and I find myself arguing with a lot of noobs about how relic shield makes no sense for Thresh. I'm a level 7 mastery Thresh and I've played him in all positions with all different kinds of builds. We can argue all day long about a lot of stuff but I'm sure we can agree that Relic Shield is pointless on Thresh.

I mean every Thresh player who is truly good at the champ goes with relic shield...plus with his enhanced auto damage from flay (provided you properly give it time to charge up) it becomes very tough to mess up

Thresh empowered auto attack from his flay passive makes the last hit much much easier. Also FoTM is a much better completed item on thresh than other options. There are situations where ancient coin can be good, but generally Relic Shield is better.

You are a Bronze V mastery level 7 thresh. That's the key. You won't be able to last hit reliably, so just build coin. https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=MUDFREAK item 3301

Thresh is recommended to take Relic Shield because his Flay passive Magic Damage on auto-attacks increases his general ability to last-hit minions, proc'ing the execute passive of Relic Shield and its upgrades. Does that mean it's the right choice all the time? No, but it doesn't mean it's pointless on him, either.

They did make an exception for Jhin with single target spell effects on his abilities, they could just as easily make Thresh proc Relic Shield. But yeah, Thresh players know how to last hit so it's not that bad in lane.

By all means he can use the relic shield if you are experienced. But like you mentioned I'm bronze 5. So many players choose Thresh and are total noobs and relic shield turns them into instant troll supports. I can use many variety of build and have no problem with relic shield on many of champs, but for a NOOB playing Thresh, relic shield is not ideal.

Hey, "Mastery 7" Thresh!

Tell me, what does his E passive do? Hmm?

The answer to that is why he's one of the rare ranged Supports to be Relic Shield viable.

Thresh's Flay provides bonus damage to help him last-hit.

Thresh wants the extra durability (and heal) Relic Shield provides.
