Feedback: The Shen rework is terrible.

The old Shen was pretty basic. Throw blade, taunt, and auto attack was pretty much all he did. It was cool, though, for people who wanted to play that. I am glad that he got attention for a rework, but my goodness they took him in a crazy direction.

It feels like each of his abilities was designed by a completely different person. They are absolutely horrible together. Let's break it down.

His Passive makes it to where he gains a shield when he casts a spell. This is pretty good, a bit similar to his old passive that healed him, except now it's temporary HP instead of permanent. The stupid part to this passive is that the shield is often activated when he uses his W, which also provides a shield against auto attacks. The durations on the passive and the W are so short that they overlap, dramatically lowing their effectiveness.

The spirit blade most frequently activates his passive, even when you don't want it to, because you practically have to SPAM this ability to have any sense of energy regen or DPS. What's stupid about this is you have to constantly spam Q to realign the blade, which blows your passive out of combat, or you have to spam Q to pull the blade to you to do DPS, which makes it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to use it to pull through an enemy to slow because it is trailing behind you. It gives you no advantage when running away because the slow only works when enemies flee Shen, and it gives no advantage when chasing because the sword is always behind you from spamming Q to do damage. It makes NO SENSE.

I hate to offer a complaint without a solution, so I would like to say that removing the spirit blade "recall" and just giving him the ability to throw the blade would be infinitely better than its current state.

I agree that Shen's kit sucks - but it's because of his ult.

If they reduced the range, they'd be able to do more with the rest of his kit but the one ability makes him a nightmare to balance, esp in coordinated teams involving splitpush shen.

I like the spirit sword but I can understand why some people don't like it. I saw a thread earlier in the week about making it throwable in a straight line, making it a bit easier to position.

But like Dakota Saturn said, Shen's Ult is a good portion of his power budget and is sadly core to his kit, so they can't change it without serious backlash. Until they actually change the ult a little bit the rest of his will probably remain like it is without any serious buffs to power.

I agree that the ult is strong, but that's what makes no sense about the rework. If the ult was the problem, why'd they leave it in there and give him a shittier everything else? It was a dramatic nerf disguised as a rework.

Its because Shens Ult is very Core to his identity, hes the teleporting master of cockblocks, so removing his ult is like removing a piece of Shen.

they left it in their because its core to his identity, if they end up changing the core thing that makes him who he is then their will clearly be a back lash, Karma Mordekaiser are clear examples of this.

i dont care about all those tiny nuance complaints, his abilities are unique which is fine, but i just hate how lazy it is to just chuck on %health damage on empowered autos for his Q. above all, arent reworked champions supposed to be made so people WANT to play them, outside of having unnaturally strong dueling power?

You guys are playing him wrong.

The fact that his Q slow works when the enemy runs away should tell you that you're supposed to be a menace; a force to be reckoned.

"It gives you no advantage when running away because the slow only works when enemies flee Shen, and it gives no advantage when chasing because the sword is always behind you from spamming Q to do damage."

The game is all about learning, and you my friends, have a long way to go. I'm no shen pro, but I have been patient and open to learning and recently had an "aha" moment. I'm going to post link to a shen video who's returned my confidence in the champ. Watch, take notes, practice Q positioning, practice decision making when it comes to your ult and learn to win lane.
