Placement and Ranking system.

Why the Hell should it count the division from the previous season?!

This is ridiculous. It's bad enough the terrible players one mostly ends up playing with, and now this.

I mean, clearly Riot its trolling! Just like all those players that troll every game and make you lose. Like those idiots, who spend more time pinging the bloody obvious (because they are totally oblivious of the existence of a mini-map), than playing. Most, do not have, either the intelligence, the skill, the gaming system or the internet connection to play this game, yet, they keep plaguing the game and making very decent payers, such as myself, stuck in Bronze division.

I am an working adult, who actually enjoys playing a couple of LoL games and have fun after work, or on my days off. Nonetheless, i play to win, not for participation trophies. That also means, due to my many other commitments in life, i dont have a pre-made team to help me climb the ranks, i am sure i am not alone here.

Winning is fun, losing a fairly played game can also be. But only if fairly!! Not because of the stupidity of members in your own team helping the opponent from minute one in the game.

This new placement rule is literally messed up, it has never been good, but now it's terrible. It's seems the sort of thing that some extremist feminist or crazed SJW would come up with. Really looks like it. - Just put the good ones down!!

And this brings me on to the flaming. Yes, curse the flaming players! Those evil players who curse!

There is a lot of players who flame for no reason, other than their own poor judgement, but TRUST ME, there IS a lot of flaming with founded cause, like, for example, i end up flaming, when it's just impossible not to say something, whenever i get idiots that keep feeding and doing stupid plays that penalize the team. Who the Hell wouldn't?! Everyone know's a team loss, it's your loss, if we were evaluated based on single performance, no one would flame. i wouldn't. Jesus, i can post you here, one game, where i had a player on my team, that did 0-23-0!! In ranked! Tell me you wouldn't flame.

I know it, you know it, everyone with a little of a brain knows it, if we get one, or two trolls in our team, we're done! We all know, whats coming for us, and that's a REALLY BIG RED COLOR "DEFEAT" and some negative points added to your score. Is this system fair?

At work, if one employee is doing bad, not performing up to company standards or the required for his or her position, and therefore penalizing the group, what happens? He or she will most likely will get no bonus, no promotion and will most likely get fired! Period! Bring some of that to this game please.

Ranking system should be based on individual performance, not based on overall team results. That is how the good players would quickly climb the ranked ladder and the idiots and the trolls, remain together trolling and penalizing each other.

Individual performance would make the system sloppy. I mean the mastery system itself is easy as hell to abuse.... so although it can be frustrating I prefer the current system. At least when games are based on winning, it forces players to keep trying and do whatever they can to win. I understand individual performance would do this too but it potentially leads to abusing the system. Like the current mastery system really loves farm and low deaths.... well hell I could just avoid playing a large chunk of the game with my team to just farm lanes. Not that its a terrible strategy but the higher elo you get the more important it is to know when to group with the team.

Hell i was salty last week after placements this year. I dropped from gold 3 to bronze 1. I blamed my teammates for my 2-8 record and was mad i dropped so far. In reality I expected to drop to around silver 3-4 so I only dropped a little father than expected. Sure it will take a little longer to climb.. but I will get back to my elo eventually. As far as my teammates... yea I had some feeders but in the end the game has always been like that. I played a role I am poor at, I switched up champs a lot, I played all my games the same day and suffered some tilt. Now that I cooled down I am just back to the slow grind. Hell... I still only have like a 43% win rate but with inflated mmr to start the season it was still good enough to get into silver.

I see you in bronze 5 and were bronze 5 last season. I get you have seen some shit, but its the lowest elo category so it is expected. Its hard to have sympathy when you crying about such a low elo since most of the community doesn't have trouble getting out of bronze. Like pros and high elo players say, you won't win every game but if you keep improving and do the most you can each game to help your team win you will rank up. It takes time, but the better the person is the higher elo they can reach and the faster they climb in lower elos.

Just remember for every time you get a feeder, there is a game where the enemy team gets one. Its easy for us to remember our teammates mistakes and the poor teammates we get, but its hard to recognize our own mistake and remember the games where the enemy was handicapped. As much as I was bitching last week about my team throwing games around the 35 in mark, a lot of my current wins come from the enemy team randomly walking into bushes or doing something stupid late game that my team take advantage of for the win.

You are the only constant in all of your games. Try to be the best constant version of yourself. Learn from your mistakes, and play to improve. You will get better over time and ranking up will become easier until you hit your next skill wall. But as you rank up eventually you will look back at your old elo and think "damn how was I stuck there?". It happens to all of us. Some of us stay salty and stop trying to improve and don't rank up, others keep focusing on improving and get better. I was salty for 3 seasons about being in silver. Hell highest rank I have achieved is still only mid gold, but at least I finally learned all I can control is myself so that is what I need to focus on.

Good luck on the climb this season.

HI,

and the best answer came from the other side of the Atlantic. Thank you for your time.

I got 6W and 4L in placements, and still ended up in bronze 5. So why to even bother? What would be the difference. 0W and 10L i would have gotten the same Bronze 5. It just does not make any sense at all.

Best Regards

Yea honestly the placement system in this game is rather strange compared to other games out there. I don't know the exact formulas or anything, I have just played the game for years and this is my impression of how it works.

A brand new never played ranked before account starts off with "normal" mmr. I believe "normal" is probably set to around 50% of the player population. So a lot of players argue that your mmr probably starts around silver 3 or 4.

But what happens to accounts after they have a season of ranked play on them? Well that is where things get kind of strange. League has what they call a soft reset at the start of each season. Its considered soft because it takes into account your prior season ending mmr. So when the new season starts your rank generally drops, but not like completely starting over like it would if they did a complete rank reset. And honestly its a good thing they don't. Not sure if you played Flex Queue during preseason but it was a mess the first couple of weeks. Had challenger-diamond players playing with plat-bronze players all the time. Games were completely random and noncompetitive since there were such large skill variances.

So instead of doing a complete rank reset what Riot does is a soft reset. Now this is the part that a lot of people find annoying (I admit I do as well) but there is some logic to it. Seasons are really long in League 9-10 months long (this year it looks like it even may be 11 months long). That is long compared to many other games. So one thing players have to realize is Riot expects players to take some time to rank up since you have so long to do so. So when they do a soft reset at the start of the season, you should expect your rank to go down. Well the highest rank one can achieve at the start of the season is plat 1. So plat 1 gets filled with prior season challenger - diamond players. Since they drop down to plat 1 obviously plat players have to drop as well. So what you see is players dropping roughly a tier in rank to start the season. Well when it comes to low silver and bronze players kind of get shafted with placements since well..... they can't really drop any lower. So I do agree as many others do that placements for a large portion of the population are kind of dumb and meaningless. Pretty much no matter your record if you were bronze last season you are going to rank bronze 4 or 5 to start the next season (at least in the current system). Just like other players in other elos should expect to drop a ways as well.

Its kind of weird year to year though. It seems like the reset changes year to year a little and your starting rank starts a little different depending on when you play placements. Like last season I ended preseason in gold 5 so I had gold 5 mmr. I played my placement games and it didn't seem like it mattered how well anyone did all I saw was most people dropped exactly a tier. (except for like plat... plat players seem to get really fucked by placements). So like last season I didn't really try in placements since I saw other gold players going like 7-3 and getting silver 4 or 5. So i just fucked around with a friend going 3-7 and still got silver 5. Well I figured it would be the same this season but turns out placements seem to have a little more of difference for us mid elo players this season. I had gold 3 mmr so figured no matter what I went I would get silver 3-4. I went 2-8 in placements and gold bronze 1... which I was salty about but in the end it doesn't really matter that much. Have time to climb just will have to play some more games this season to hit gold again.

But ultimately your starting rank doesn't mean anything. Its about your journey and where you end up at the end of the year. Ranks are pretty damn meaningless right now and will be for the next month or two until players get back to their normal elo again. Like last year it took (season started sometime around January 20th 2016) I went from silver 5 to gold 5 by April 1st. Then instead of trying to rank up I started playing on one of my alt accounts. It dropped from like silver 3 to bronze 2 or something. Then over the next couple of months I ranked that account up into gold. Then I did it again with my buddies on my dynamic queue account before finally coming back and playing on my main account again at the end of the season. I guess what I am trying to show is starting rank doesn't mean shit so I wouldn't worry much about where you got placed. Just focus on improving and getting better and realize ranking up is a climb so if you want to reach a higher rank prepare for the long road ahead.

Anyways I do agree placements are bullshit but they also serve a purpose. It helps guarantee players are at least starting the season around similar prior ranked players so rank skill variances are not super random. When there is no filter on ranks games become even more chaotic than they normally are since there is so much skill variance.

Whether good or bad its basically how the system works. Although I wish they would change it for players who are going to drop to a certain rank anyways so they can focus on getting LP rather than playing games that don't affect their starting rank anyways.
