Master Yi (Post Devour Opinion)

Master Yi has been on quite the roller coaster ride this season and as a guy who has mained Master Yi since I started playing late in season 3 and now have over 500K mastery points on I feel bittersweet about where he is right now. I'm more then happy that the awful Sated Devour days are behind us. I hated playing a farming simulator for 20 minutes and then mindlessly mowing down the enemy team while tanking everything. The slew of nerfs where more then called for when Sated Devour and Rageblade where a huge problem but now that both items have no longer been an issue for several patches now I believe it's time for Master Yi to be given back his pre Sated Devour status. Itemization has been a huge issue this season and Master Yi is finally looking to be back to his old ways. This past few patches have been just like the old days when I truly enjoyed playing Master Yi. The only problem is the nerf to his Highlander duration. Picking and choosing his fights is a HUGE part of what separates a good Yi from a bad one but with this new highlander that doesn't even matter much with so much mobility and invulnerability people just stall out the duration of his ult the best they can it becomes a game of cat and mouse. Master Yi has always been an excellent duelist more about outplaying his opponents and maximizing his efficiency by getting the resets he needs. My realiance on the new Ghost is controlling exactly what fights I pick 90% of the time. While Master Yi is by no means in a bad spot in my opinion the contorted play style to play him effectively is no longer as satisfying or as fun to play as he was before Sated Devour was introduced. While I believe the Cooldown nerf was fine I do believe the duration nerf should be reverted.

I suggest you wait for the Assassin Update before you protest too much

Of the champions Riot has talked about reworking and the ones they are thinking about reworking Master Yi isn't one of them and at this point I really doubt he will be one of the targets they focus on in the Assassin update considering how they want to keep it at a smaller champion range to make the reworks more effective.

Every major class update so far has come with at least a few item reworks and additions. That is what I was referring to. I would anticipate that at least a few of these will work well on Master Yi.

Why would he wait for the assassin update?

Yi is not going to be touched by it and he doesn't really build like an assassin.

And I repeat

That's funny because Yi IS an assassin. Maybe that would be a good reason for Riot to introduce some items that would encourage him to build like one.

Ignore what the client refers to him as. Yi is not an assassin.

He is and always has been a melee carry, or as Rito calls them now, a "skirmisher".

He has more in common with Yasuo, Tryndamere, or Jax than he does Zed, Talon, or Rengar.

Also, why would I want to build Yi as an assassin? I want to build him as an attack speed melee carry.
