How do you determine what is "high elo"

So lately I've seen that different people have different perceptions on what is high elo. Some say gold+, some say plat+, some say master+. But what I'm wondering is, is there even a way to tell what is high or what is low? I mean, if we're going based on stats, Plat 5+ is the top 8% of players, so isn't that pretty damn high? And for the people who say Master+ is high elo, that means that 99.8% of ranked players are low or mid elo. And if high elo just means above average, then that would mean that Gold would qualify, since its considered above the average rank of players. Is "high" or "low" elo just a base of opinoin? If so can't a player just say that silver is high elo? If there's no actual way to justify what is and what isnt then why even bother throwing these phrases around.

I've always assumed it was diamond+, but that's just me.

Here's how most people see it. Most who are Bronze/Silver consider Gold+ high elo

Gold Consider Plat2+ high elo

Plat thinks everyone is low elo.

Diamond think masters/Challenger is high elo.

Masters has the same thinking as plat.

Challenger thinks everyone else is just low elo. (Based off comments from Gosu/QtPie/IWillDominate/Dyrus...Etc, you get the point.)

This is how people respond when I ask them a question based off where they are at.

Considering there are 7 tiers...

Bronze

Silver

Gold

Plat

Diamond

Master

Challenger

I personally say Master/Challenger is High, regardless of how many players may be in each area. Plat is Mid being the middle of the ladder, making Bronze Low :P

as i am currently silver (although i do believe by actual skill is low gold (4/5) on my mains) and i would consider myself mid elo

as for high/ mid/ lower elo

i would consider plat + high elo

i would consider bronze low elo, gold i would generally consider mid/ higher based on where in gold

silver.. i really have an issue defining between low/mid

because i think any player who CLIMBED to silver FROM bronze is mid elo

but i don't think if you just place directly into silver you are "mid elo"

as how i would define a "high/ mid/ low" elo person based on what i see in game wihout looking at thier elo

any player who consistently makes really bad choices is low elo, aka tries to fight a 1v1 with a 2k gold deficit engages in a team fight when the rest of the team isn't there make bad objective decisions, aka going for elder when we aced them and could end the game right then.

a mid elo player would say this about them someone with fairly good map awareness, and when not directly in a fight will frequently ping important things, such as vision of an enemy jungler coming toward another lane that laner might have missed a player who occasionally does something really stupid and KNOWS it was dumb and admits, "wow that was a stupid idea" a player who will always try to save a teammate, and has good map awareness, but doesn't always know when a teammate cant be saves and when to just let them die and not risk giving the enemy another kill as well a player who knows when NOT to fight and when to splitpush / do certain objectives

high elo a player who is better than me (just kidding)

ok seriously high elo: a player who can watch the map and be in a fight at the same time, a player who can frequently pull off impressive plays and predictions skillshots a player who rarely makes dumb descisons, and knows what objectives to take. a player who know when to back off from a fight and when to engage a player who knows when they should take an objective, based on how other lanes are doing or where the other players they have vision on are at.

i think of it this way. that there are multiple tiers of high elo. ~plat2-diamond5 being the lowest tier of high elo diamond 4-3 being the next diamond 2-1 master challenger

that's just how i think of it, though.

when people say low elo though they usually mean gold and lower

i think of "High ELO" as being higher than what i am personally. im gold 5 so anything plat or above is high elo to me, if i was plat it would be diamond+ this is my own personal view of things but i always see myself as being low to mid elo and those above me to be high.
