Is this how ranked is supposed to work?

Dont get me wrong im not the best player at all but i am decent. I can hold my own in the game and still do a lot of damage even if im behind, but it seems like in ranked if you dont absolutely carry your team you wont win. I come out of bot lane 7-3 and then the enemy team can instantly kill me and my team dosentpeel or anything, it seems not unless i instantly kill them we are not going to win. Most of my teams refuse to communicate and its just aggravating. Anyone have tips for trying to win ranked game?

yeah, that's pretty much ranked in a nutshell. carry or fail. I think it's supposed to be a team game but solo q is all about your ability to carry through the afks and the feeding and the lack of team work. relying on anyone else to help you accept fro a duo partner is pointless therefor i would expect much of the same behaviors unless you join a 5s team.

It's called YoloQ for a reason.

Playing/winning a ranked game is 100% like playing/winning a normals draft pick game (or rather any normal game that you play alone). Honestly if you're 7/3 and you're instantly dying in teamfights, as a botlane main who mains support because they like to peel, I'm going to say that's 100% your fault. If you instantly die sometimes okay it's because you're being focused in that game that's cool I got your back, if in every game you're instantly dying and you think it's because you aren't getting any peel, it's actually because you're out of position. If your team won't naturally peel for you I've learned by secondary maining ADC just position yourself with your tankier allies as meat shields, and fall back if you feel you're in danger. I don't care if your jungler Vi is going ham and locking down the Jinx in the enemy backline if you're playing MF and you think the Darius in the enemy frontline is going to shred you to pieces when you walk forward, AA Darius because he's what you can safely AA, and if Vi dies, Vi dies.

If your team isn't peeling for you, don't play expecting any peel. If you're playing a role in botlane the #1 mechanic to learn (in my opinion) is positioning. You always need to know great positioning as both the support and the adc if you want to win the game. If you aren't getting peel make sure you're running the enemy assassin/bruiser all around the map, stutter stepping him, dashing away, as long as you stay in a position that is safe for you. I don't care if you could relentlessly pursuit forward and pick up a double kill on the enemy APC and Support with your passive, if there isn't going to be someone to peel the toplaner/jungler off you when you dash forward, don't do it. Sacrifice some of the damage you could be bringing to the teamfight to live after the teamfight.

You know why?

It's not because you're better than your teammates or because you don't like them, but it's because if you die in the teamfight then your team shouldn't have an ADC on it at all.

It is not your job to kill everything, in fact normally the adc will sit in the backline shooting the tanks because it's the assassins, bruisers, and APCs who burst down the backline. As the ADC you aren't supposed to kill everything, you're AA based so you can take the towers.

Objectives are the most important part of the game you can't win without taking them. The ADC is going to be the fastest tower pusher on team. THe ADCs whole job is to take the towers after the fight. So if you die in the teamfight you failed your job because now it's Syndra and Nami sitting by the inner turret pretending they've got the damage to take it down.

As for generally winning ranked game:

  • Know all the roles and don't be bossy about the role you want. If 3rd pick is begging to ADC and you like playing both ADC and top, be the bigger person and don't fight over it. You like playing top too I don't care if you're first pick and would rather adc just go top.
  • Be polite. The amount of times I manage to settle fights or get a raging 'I'm gonna afk' champion to join us again is amazing. If you spend all game saying 'Gj Zed' or 'Ty for the gank Rammus' your teammates will be cool with you. When Rammus and Zed start to fight with each other tell them to concentrate on the game or to please not fight.
  • Always focus objects. Being 7/3 means almost nothing. If you win a teamfight start pinging assistance at dragon or a tower to take.
  • Make 'rotations' don't just tard charge down midlane over and over again. Take all of botlane towers and that toplane inhibitor. More gold and if you get 2 inhibs down it's a lot easier to take the nexus turrets while the enemies are alive.
  • Play what the team needs and be good at it. In your main role you should be able to play what the team needs. Maybe you can't play a tank if you're an ADC but if ADC is your main know your hypercarries (ex trist, kog'maw), your assassin carries (vayne, twitch), your support carries (ashe, varus), your splitpush carries (jinx, sivir), your ADCasters (ezreal, corki), your early (graves, lucian), mid (miss fortune, caitlyn), and late (vayne, kalista[?]) carries. If ADC is your main you should be able to fill any of those roles. As a support main I can play tanks, utility mages, burst mages, disengage, sustain, engage, any support except blitz and morg basically.
  • Play a warm up game before jumping into ranked. It doesn't matter if you win or lose as long as you did well given the game's circumstances. Just the other day I was on an 8 ranked game winstreak but if you looked at my match history I had that one normals loss in the middle of it all. It was my practice game and even though I wiffed quite a few skillshots it got all of that out of my system and allowed me to be fully ready to win the ranked games I played after that.
