Okay i have a newbie question about on-hit numbers...

okay i am trying to figure out what the different color of numbers mean when i attack an enemy...(i haven't been able to find this info any where...)

what is the plain red number? (basic attack damage?) what is the red number with the fire like symbol next to it? (critical strike damage?) what is the purple number with the kinda same fire symbol next to it? (no clue...)

please help cause its frustrating not knowing and i feel like a complete noob... :(

The red numbers are Physical Damage, many sources besides Auto Attacks can deal Physical Damage. Like a Jinx Super Mega Death Rocket (her ult).

The purple numbers are Magical Damage which is mostly caused by abilities. Like a Veigar Primordial Burst for example (his ult).

There is one other color which tells you the type of damage it is. That is White colored damage numbers. This damage type is called True Damage. It ignores all forms of defenses (Armor/Magic Resist). Vayne is a good example of someone who can deal True damage consistantly due to their ability Silver Bolts. But it can also be applied by anyone if you have completely bypassed that targets armor/magic resist as well with enough Armor/Magic penetration.
