Flamed for Splitting

CreamCheeseSushi··10 votes·983 views

So i'm in solo queue as the top laner, my team has decent wave clear, and i recognize a good time to split push while my team wave clears, as baron and drag are not up. I type in the chat, "I'm going to split bot so wave clear and don't fight" and as soon as i take the first wave, they engage 4 v 5 and all die. Once they are all dead, they say in chat, "where was fiora?", "report fiora trolling", "its no wonder you have no assists, you never group" things like that. Am i doing something wrong? Should I actually be grouping while our teams are even and i can easily draw map pressure towards bot? Or am I making the right calls and should stop playing split pushers since teams dont know how to play around it?

Below plat people dont know what splitting is so it is to be expected, i get flamed when i split nasus xD

Nah they don't how to support splits at plat level either.

They either:

  1. Come to help you push
  2. Push mid until you die to a 5 man then try to come help you somehow? Idk it's dumb and idk why anyone does this
  3. Engage 4v5
  4. Farm your team's jungle endlessly because they need your jungle fully cleared for reasons
  5. Stop pressuring any objectives whatsoever the moment enemies collapse on you (sorta same as 2)
  6. Get caught randomly in the unwarded enemy jungle for which I have no idea why they venture in there in the first place
  7. Repeatedly begin a push then abruptly stop because someone "needs to back for an item". I can't stress the "repeatedly" part enough I swear they chain back like this constantly getting absolutely nothing done
  8. 4 man push a lane that has the inhib down already (WHY?!)
  9. Split 2-2 or 3-1 typically with the ADC being the 1 in the 3-1 scenario, we all know how that goes

Rarely, very very rarely, will they ever do this:

  • Pressure an objective

It's pretty sad. Yknow what's worse? People who do 1-9 have about a 99% chance of being the type of people to get an Ace then back to buy items and waste the enemy death timers they coulda used to get an objective. Game sense is sadly lacking in every elo my dude--the only thing that's consistently better per rank is individual mechanics.

The number of times I'm the Janna or Soraka spam pinging the mid lane tower and trying to clear a minion wave while my entire team is running top to save our Fiora or Nasus from the 4 man gank is beyond me. I don't get it. This isn't that hard of a concept.

It really is though for some reason. And every time they get half way up the river then when the splitter dies they make the derpy walk back.

Much accomplished.

To be fair, them grouping up on you (as a splitpusher) means you get to do a counter-engage and that can work out well because most engages are either all-in or all-out and when you see a Shen ultimate come up and 3 enemy team members pop up from the flank, you go "Oh shit" after blowing your only engage/disengage while they collapse on you. Unless you have Janna, who is the most OP disengage champ in the game so that's a different story.

I think it's more of the unexpected-ness of the situation, just like a jungle counter-gank, it usually ends up badly for the initial ganker. But certainly if they are wasting so much manpower to get rid of the top laner, it is usually more efficient to just 4-man dive a lone defender, just saying that it could work out if you prep for it.

Oh they know, they just refuse to accept that you're deciding on strategy and not them.

When they tell you to group you should listen to them, because they deserve Challenger and you don't.

This is why I love splitting, whenever I do it, I get to report flamers.

You did nothing wrong from the info you gave.

You told the team your plan and asked them nicely to wait to fight.

Your team decided to ignore your plan and try to fight an obviously unwinnable fight.

It's their fault(mostly) for fighting while they know it's a 4v5.

Yeah, actually when teammates do that, ignoring warnings that it's not safe to fight, it's practically inting.

They have zero right to get pissed at you. They will anyway, because they are perfect angels and nothing could ever possibly be their fault! It's so disappointing.

People should be required to watch a tutorial on separating their ego from their strategy before being allowed to play multiplayer games with others.

As the devil's advocate, why do you get to ignore their request though? Certainly, I agree with the OP but wouldn't the more weighty opinion be that of the majority?

HalcyonDweller2 votes

It's not about majority vs minority. Or who is right or wrong in that situation. It's about strategy. If the team is not together for a play (for example a teamfight) it would be stupid to try to fight that teamfight.

I could go jump off a bridge right now, claiming that "the civil engineers should have installed safety nets," but if I fall to my death who's fault is that really? Not the engineer or the bridgebuilders, that's for sure.

It's one thing to ask a player to work with the team. It's another thing entirely to throw the game out of stubbornness when that player doesn't agree to a proposed strategy.

Anyone who starts a 4v5 teamfight and then blames the 5th teammate for not being there is being a hypocritical idiot. They made a stupid choice that was likely to go badly simply because they were not aware enough or were too stubborn to adjust their strategy to the circumstances at hand.

This is not to be confused with situations where the team gets engaged on while they are 4v5. Getting caught out of position is more subjective. And it's more likely to be more of a genuine mistake than picking a bad fight would be.

You are playing Fiora so by definition your team can't really rely on you in fights. Split pushing and ignoring my team is what got me out of gold and platinum. If your team can't stay back and play it safe despite you warning them, you can't really do much else. Ignore them, keep splitting and draw the attention of the enemy team so your team can siege turrets and take objectives. Also mute them if you need to. It really helps you concentrate, what with the missing ping spam and all.

I like to push as much as I can before and after team fights (although in most of m cases my team chooses not to start the fight without the whole team) and then when the fight is over I go back to push again.

Fam, lemme teach u something, and let's talk real. You're in Silver. Your teammates there lack a few points in IQ so there's no point telling them that you're split pushing cuz they dont know what that is or how that works. Just ignore them and do this. All you want to do is to take 5-10 kills on lane, then split-group. Not groupping 24/7 or splitting 24/7. Believe me, im Tryndamere onetrick and 24/7 split didnt work even in silver (in bronze did, because they look at the map just to not get lost in the Summoner's Rift jungle. They dont give af if they see you in their jg.. They'll only come for you if you have a % hp less than they do xDDDD), because every 2-3 mins they'll look at the map and see that something is wrong. Just get fed off your low IQ laner and group with them, do a teamfight, take an objective then keep splitting. No point staying. I was on my road to Diamond (now g3 tho, demoted + perma banned here xD)

I laughed way too hard at that part. So true.

dont split if your team needs you in team fights. durp.

Don't start a teamfight if you KNOW that you are 4v5. AKA don't be stupid.
