Rune Pages - New system

Hello, summoners.

Before hand, let me just say that I might have done a few mistakes here and there, since english isn't my primary language. I apologize for it and would really like if you could point out a few of those mistakes for me.

**Context : **

I've been playing this game for quite a while now ; I had my first account in the open beta, then made this one in season 1. Over the years, I've seen quite my share of improvements in and out of the game !

A few years ago, a few champions only were in League of Legends. Oh it was a fun time, but the vast pool of champions we can now chose is making us, summoners, avid to play more !

I've noticed one issue with the rune system. I currently own the 20 pages we can have, but everytime i'm wanting to play a specific champ, I want to have the perfect runes for it. I'm deleting and redoing my rune pages every week, to match my current playstyle. It's getting a little annoying... With one ranked team, i'm the support player. With another, i'm the top laner. Having to switch my runes every time I want to play another role is fastidious.

I could simply ask to upgrade the max number of rune pages, but I know that scrolling accross 20 pages is already a task where a mistake can be made.

So here's my idea !

Recently, Riot added the " item set " system, wich I use from time to time. It's a well-rounded system that allows you to spend less time looking for items in the game, and plan things ahead. So... why don't we do something like this for the runes ?

Let me explain.

I would like to play Bard tonight. I go into my rune pages, I buy a new one, I set-up the runes I want. Movespeed, Armor, HP, Mr - or pretty much anything I would like to try. Once the page is done, a menu is at my right. I can now select for WICH CHAMP(s) this page would be. I could pick a few, or pick none !

Now, I launch a custom game. Since I want to try a new set-up without feeding too much. I pick my champion : Bard ! Once I lock in, a menu comes in : Rune Page Selection Menu.

In this menu, I can see that I have a page for Bard. I can pick it up if I want, without misclicking or scrolling over X pages. But what if I want to try something... even fancier ? At the last minute ?

Well, more options are available for me. 1: See all GENERIC PAGES - A.K.A pages where I selected no champions; 2 : See ALL RUNE PAGES - no matter for what champ they're listed; 3 : See RUNE PAGES with THIS STAT.

In the end, I have the choice to look and pick any page I want ! But it reduce the chance that I pick one I shouldn't pick, if I set it up before hand.

So, why is this system better ? Or why I think it is ?

  • As the Item set system, it allows for a quick pick. I can now take more time to look at the ennemy team, or my team, and communicate on what strategy we should use. An invade ? Early dragon ? Lane swap ?..
  • It allows for endless pages amought, since you don't have to scroll trought every one of them in a small menu.
  • It makes for a small warning, in the rare occasion where I just.. forget to switch.

**TL;DR **: New rune system that kind-of works like the item sets. Allows for unlimited pages, as long as you buy them.

I think you're right and the rune page management is tedious and unnecessarily cumbersome at the moment. I think your solution is a good fix for the current situation with runes (the way they're filled, selected in champ picking, etc), but maybe the obstacle to introduce something like this is that they're planning something different with runes in the future.

It would be good to know what they think about the current situation and what (if anything) they're planning to do next, but unfortunately since a lot of people talk about other things (Tribunal, champ masteries, friend lists, etc...) maybe no-one even asked them.

This is a brilliant Idea, especially for those who don't have much use for IP anymore. I'm so tired of filling up my 20 pages and feeling like I had to leave some niche ideas out due to practicality
