Clarity Passive Shaco

joejoejoejoe··217 votes·18,589 views

Let’s talk about Shaco’s passive ! Hi everyone ! As a shaco player I’ve always find it strange that we cannot differentiate when we hit or not in the back. So I suggest putting a passive like Fiora to show where exactly we can hit to proc the bonus damages (does the passive works on 180° ? because it looks like.). Moreover, the bonus damage could appear like Kindred’s passive or even like MF’s passive. And you what you think about this? Feel free to give your feedback!

Ooo, good call on using the MF style floating combat text to show both that Backstab's triggered and how much extra damage it contributed. We'll add that in for the next patch (6.12). I'd imagine that should both help experienced players looking to optimize Backstab usage and newer players who don't yet understand what Backstab works with (a lot of new Shaco players fail to optimize Backstab with the clone or E).

Will look at the prospect of an indicator circle as well, less sure about that one though, at least in the short term, given both visual noise it adds and need for some visual effects artist time to make that look good enough.

Have you thought at Riot of giving guys like OP some reward for making a suggestion that you will incorporate into a future patch. Seems like a nice boost to people that give good ideas and clarification that you use

Venowolf30 votes

That is the reason of why they don't need to give a reward or a prize. If you want to help for a better community you do that for free not to receive prizes. Also this is your reward and prize at the same time you are helping: your thoughts'd been listening . So the simple action that they take in account our ideas is more than a "generous" prize. I feel very satisfied to help free my beloved community, so think twice before asking for prizes or "nice boost" when they clearly are giving to us...

...Giving the great chance to help!

I completely agree with you. The reward is to see that the idea became reality.

Now you can honestly say "Hey, I actually helped design League of Legends" to your friends, and it's sort of-kind of true.

Freakin' cool.

Whenever I see the term 'stat binding' used, I get this little thrill, knowing that players know the term because of a post I made.

yeah I didnt know b4 your post and well now I understand better.

He mentions it being like a Fiora indicator which is visible to enemies... Would you maintain that or make it only visible to Shaco and his team

because if hes walking up stealthed it would give him away?

joejoejoejoe1 votes

No I never wanted it to be visible to the enemy but only for Shaco, I answered a similar position instead. Maybe I misspoke in my main post.

crippler382 votes

it probably would be ignored once people get used to shaco or are already good with shaco but it'd help people learn to use shaco. Good on ya.

Doing a Fiora style indicator has some issues on Shaco because of how often champion facing changes in LoL. Fiora's passive is based off screen direction, so you'll get an indicator constantly pointing up, or left or whatever. Since Backstab's based off champion facing though you'll end up with something that's constantly switching directions. It's a clear way to help people understand what 'behind' means certainly, but I suspect would end up being quite noisy and distracting for low value in game after that.

Doesn't that just tell you that Shaco's passive is a whole lot of extra variance for the player? Sure, the opponent can play around it, but the opponent might not even know Shaco is there and still turn for a moment to ward a bush or something and completely ruin the set-up Backstab.

Something like Fiora's Duelist Dance would make Shaco players' lives a lot easier while also giving the enemy something to play around (easier time for Shaco to hit it, and in exchange the player knows Shaco is around, which I think is pretty fair since Eve, Rengar, Akali and Wukong all have some clear indication that the champion is nearby when they stealth.

Xærys1 votes

Maybe it could be the same as Vel'Koz, only visible for the Shaco player and each ennemy could see only it's own "backstab area".

Stompburger2 votes

What if you used that style of indicator, but only had it appear for Shaco, and only when he's near the target, and only when he's behind them (specifically, when he's in a position where attacking them will apply the backstab damage)? Then it wouldn't be on the screen for most of the time, and it would disappear when the enemy turns to face Shaco so the indicator wouldn't swing around them a lot as they turn.

GawnMower1 votes

you may not want to take ideas straight from other games, but i rembered when i used to splay smite that one of there characters Loki, is similar to shaco, share similar abilities and they share the exact same passive (pretty much) and i remembered that they had a notifier for when you back-stabbed someone, a Knife appears next the damage text.

For visual reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK1DdxAByDg

im not an much of a shaco player my self, but i feel this is probably the direction you should be heading in

joejoejoejoe2 votes

I find this interesting idea, a similar visual support when I think something similar to Fiora would actually be pretty chaotic in.

When Cassiopea succeeded his ulti on front of the enemy, he is petrified visually (and stun), otherwise it is just slow

When Tryndamere succeeded his W in the back, the enemy is slowed down and visually we see a chicken above it, otherwise it just to AD in less

Shaco has none of this. After thinking about it, the fact of seeing the damage that we appear with the MF fighting style floating text tells us that we have already managed to activate his passive. Maybe Shaco does not need more than that.

GawnMower2 votes

Well the reason i went with the one that SMITE have is simply because it doesn't give anything away to other players.in terms of if shaco is nearby or not, all its doing is just letting everyone, most importantly Shaco, know that his bonus damage is being applied because of the backstab passive. I felt a little Knife icon either next to the Victim or alongside the damage numbers ( think of the little explosion image for when you crit) just to let you know your doing right

dapositiveviking1 votes

how about similar to cho gath when his opponents are killable by his ultimate? rather than an indicator binded to a direction, theres an indicator on the enemy for when the passive would be triggered

I wish we would get a patch where everything gets more clarity.

Execute indicator for the following champions... Riven Darius Elise Fizz Kalista Jhin (forgot some, anyone with a missing hp ability or an ability that resets on kills in the case of kalista)

Easily identifiable tells for how many charges someone has on an ability without looking at their buff icon... Ahri Spirit Rush, Akali Shadow Dance, Khazix Void Assault, Teemo Noxious Trap, Corki Rocket Barrage etc.

Normalizing ability effects between skins, the Twisted Fate treatment. Rumble ultimate is rectangular on super galaxy but circular on normal skin, Quinn harrier marks are more visible with Woad Scout, Swain nevermove has a huge light effect on tyrant but no special effect on normal, Zed death mark kill symbol is much more visible on PROJECT: Zed, XinZhao has a tornado effect on ultimate in Warring Kingdoms that is not in the other skins,Blitzcrank has better grab particles on iBlitzcrank. Fiora has a pink and MUCH more visible vitals and ult effects on her PROJECT: Fiora skin. Syndra Atlantean skin's dark spheres are much harder to see in the river. Thresh Blood Moon red souls can be confusing when there are two Threshes in the same game

And a category that I can only get one sample for: Ability ranges that are incorrect. Ahri Orb of Deception's range on the ability tooltip is a full sphere length shorter than the ability actually reaches.

Edit 1: Added Corki, Fiora, Syndra, Thresh, And Ahri Q.

P.S who is downvoting all my comments further down the comment chain. How r00d of you.

Zed death mark kill symbol more visible on PROJECT: Zed,

Zed has death mark kill symbol on his base skin? That's a new one. /s

That's why it needs to be normalized.

Counter proposal: Remove execute indicators from Garen and Chogath (And whoever else has one)

Faceroll Tactics2 votes

Garen doesn't have one.

And I've been baited with Chogath indicator more than It's helped me get kills.

HayRoss8 votes

Garen does if they enemy is the villain. The golden sword makes a distinct noise, grows much bigger and opaque

Faceroll Tactics1 votes

Hm. Never noticed that.

underscores2222 votes

The only reason those two have indicators is that they do true damage. The game doesn't have to calculate how much damage after resistances the ability will do, or update those calculations every half second or whatever. Especially since there are many ways to get varying resistances (walking near an aegis, materies, wukong) it would be pretty intensive to run calculations on all the champs.

BenParadox2 votes

Zed's ult has an indicator when it will deal enough damage to kill the target (a spinning shuriken appears over the target's head), and it does physical damage. I know its delayed and depends on how much damage Zed did to them, but its still the same idea.

Also,

{quoted}

Counter proposal: Remove execute indicators from Garen and Chogath (And whoever else has one)

Why would you want to remove clarity? It would just lead to frustrating moments for the Garen/Cho'Gath when their executes don't finish off the enemy champion.

Faceroll Tactics1 votes

summoner 13 is always a good thing, I started this comment chain hoping Riot would comment on this, because they ended up commenting further down this thread (of course, I made this before meddler responded, but I expected the thread to get a red reply)

HayRoss2 votes

It's like showing damage overtime done before it's actually done: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/i2xERtsd-dots-can-feel-impactful-if-you-show-how-much-damage-they-will-do-as-soon-as-they-hit It gives a WHOLE lot of information that really shouldn't be available to you. Like assuming that the enemy is NOT the villain, it takes a while of practice to really learn when you should ult.

It's not removing clarity, it's just hiding information you shouldn't have in the first place

Wimbledofy4 votes

out of all those only darius should really get one. Riven has a time limit on her ult anyways, jhins ult is a skillshot with 4 shots, and the rests aren't ults so they definitely shouldn't have an execute marker. The reason darius should get one is because if you ult someone and it doesn't kill them you don't get the reset. Fizz having an execute indicator makes the least sense since his is a passive.

Faceroll Tactics4 votes

Kalista should get the indicator too because if she doesn't get the kill she loses almost all of her pressure. And her ultimate is very dependent on her oathsworn to do the right thing

CasterGilgamesh4 votes

this got downvoted?i guess people are still crying over first release kalista.

Faceroll Tactics4 votes

Yeah there is this stigma in the community where defending Rengar Fizz Kalista Fiora etc. is asking for downvotes

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

i never got much of the hate for kalista TBH i mean as a support main or a adc/mid player i either had enough CC to stop her or just had enoujgh range damage to keep up its only bad when you get to the melee tanks Darius Udyr Gangplank Garen but even then these champions where meant to be kited and they are strong (border line OP) in the first place

makes sense, though should be visible when shaco is visible and in your vicinity to allow counterplea.

on a side note i switched to jung from ad recently and need to branch out from kindred so i may take up shaco he's always peeked my interest.

It's piqued. Anyways, I think having the indicator on enemy players could be helpful, but there might be too much difficulty in having them visible to the team.

If they show while he's stealthed and only in the vicinity, then its gives him away. If they show only when he's visible it gives Shaco information to him being visible anywhere on the map and where wards might be. If they show all the time, it adds unnecessary particles that may just get lost and not noticed when they'd need to be.

Maybe it could work with true sight, but even then it gives more information to the Shaco player if they're not checking brushes and stuff and lowers some countergank potential.

Those are just a few things I would see being troublesome given I main shaco.

Why would an indicator even need to be for everyone and not just shaco? Its only 20% increased damage, not even a full crit.

forresto2 votes

but it's an extra 20% on top of the crit. Trust me, if you get it, it's very noticeable.

Igotlazy3 votes

I don't know about this. It may get a little messy for the Shaco player to constantly have a half circles attached to all 5 members of the enemy team. Keep in mind that it isn't exactly like a Fiora Passive. Physically turning your character WOULD move this circle, meaning 5 of these things would be flipping around constantly.

Maybe it should only appear on Champions that Shaco has recently attacked?

joejoejoejoe1 votes

I see what you mean.

In made, it should be seen as the Pix Lulu, which is set on an ally or an enemy by its E, it moves all the time depending on the champion in question, yet it is not annoying. I think this is also a very good idea, but only visually.

bulldoggamer1 votes

And on the tooltip for his passive it should say "backs backs backs"

Choaru3 votes

i see a post about my main You have my upvote ;o

Anyways that would be nice and make shaco a little bit easier to play, but i do agree that it should only be visible to Shaco since if the enemy can see the "vital" then they would know shaco is in the area.

Faceroll Tactics4 votes

Fiora mark isn't shown until the enemy has vision of fiora and vice versa. Eg waiting in a bush as fiora and seeing an enemy walk past will not see off a vital until the fiora walks out of the bush and both see each other.

Just replicate with Shaco and it shouldn't compromise his position

Choaru1 votes

Ahh ok owo I never really played Fiora so I didn't know that is how her passive worked ^.^;

FearEngineer3 votes

Shaco also needs his traps equalized with other destructables like teemo shrooms and wards.

By mid game his traps can pretty much be 1 hit and have much less impact than they should.

Its funny how us unprofessional video game nerds with no experience in making games seem to come up with better ideas than the people who have devoted their lives to making them...

Lil Gr33n Ghouls8 votes

Coming up with an idea and actually being able to make something are very different. I'm sure all of us video game nerds have spent time coming up with ideas for video games, but how many of us have actually made a game or helped make one. Even the amount of people that mod games is a small portion the amount of people who play video. Passive aggressively devaluing an artist's\craftsman's (which video game devs are) work just because other people come up with good idea's sometimes is silly.
