Abandoned Games

I would like to propose an option to be implemented by Riot to address the rising number of matches in which one or more players quit the game within the first 20 minutes. My idea is that if a player leaves the game within the first 15 minutes, the team on which the person was assigned can then vote to leave the game early, requiring a 3/1 vote of yes to pass. If the yes vote is confirmed a timer will begin counting down 3 minutes. If the person who left or disconnected reconnects within those 3 minutes the timer would end and the game would continue as normal. If the person does not return then the match would end. It is at this point I leave it to Riot's discretion on the following two possible outcomes of the surrender vote: A) The match is marked as a draw with no loss/win penalty would apply to the teams, to prevent abuse, the person who left would receive an immediate ban of 1-2 days, scaling proportionately to a permanent ban if the behavior persists, or B) it counts as any other surrender would. Conversely, the rules can be set so that option A applies to non-ranked and option B applies to ranked, to prevent extreme abuse. While not perfect in application, I believe this would be a very good course of action by Riot to curtail the rising number of games in which one or more people leave the game causing unbalance and upset amongst players affected by these incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct.

I like this idea though I think a 1-2 day for one leave is a bit harsh unless it's an intentional leave. But leaves can be caused by a wide range of reasons, some which are out of the player's hands.

you should separate the options for clarity

As I think of this as a good idea for making games that are not able to play out due to afk players not able to go on for too long I do have some suggestions to better suit a wider demographic.

  1. Not only are there people that afk for rage quitting but there are sometimes situations of mechanical malfunctions with equipment. For this purpose I propose increasing the timer for the afk player to come back to 4:30 minutes as there are some instances where someone might not be able to connect even in the alotted time given to them.

  2. I can somewhat agree on the penalty of an afk player but it should be up to the higher power of report reviews to handle the bans. If they are not reported at the end of the game then they should not be penalized. Some games the players know if someone has rage quit or had trouble with internet so the report system will help clarify what happened in the game that resulted in a surrender vote.

Penalties dont match the crime. What about faulty internet or an issue requiring immediate attention like a fire alarm? I dont want to be banned for something out of my control. If it was only for people who willingly leave then it makes it a little less harsh.
