Love letter to Fizz
Dear Riot,
I've been an active member of League since Season 1. When I first started playing, I just played random champions, always building Phantom Dancer
, solely due to the passive of walking through units. Along comes Fizz...
When Fizz was released, I'll admit, I only played him a lot only because of his passive, I didn't care much about his abilities, yet. As time went on, I'd play Fizz more and more, and other champions less and less. Fizz had it all, a way to escape, and run through minions. Back then, I'd spawn, walk to top or bottom lane (only played 3's) then die because I was just going for a kill. Sad thing is I still do that lol, most teams don't really dig the shit kda, but I know it can secure a win sometimes.
Fizz's abilities used to be something like this... Passive: Run through units, never get creep blocked Q: Reposition tool, use it as the auto attack is at max range for another 2 or so autos W: Lich Bane Proc in-between your other spells, or as a WQ opener to just proc thunderlords, bleed damage E: Dodge stuff, or damage, or run away R: Flashy spell, use it to animation cancel with your q, maybe throw it as a zoning thing, land it, because it's good (but hard to hit)
Fizz's abilities are more like this now... Passive: Run through units, never get creep blocked Q: Use this when you have your ult on someone to proc your W to 1 shot W: Dont waste this, it's you're whole kit's damage E: Gets you closer to the target to Q R: Gives someone your W passive, and lets you use W to kill them in one auto
In team fights nowadays, I'm running somewhere, I see a group, or just one guy, I throw the ult, it hits, how could it miss, right? (the thing's a magnet, and doesn't feel good to hit anymore, point blank animation canceling felt better than sniping someone a mile away when the thing snaps to champs hard now) So now the shark's ticking down, I have 2.5 secs to get to my target, I will either E a wall or just close distance, or flash at them just to WQ them, then walk away. They're dead. The difference between old and new fizz is how the player uses Q and E. Q isn't a re-position tool anymore, it just enables W passives for all, or allows you to proc your W, E only closes or lengthens gaps, the ap ratio seems null when compared to the raw damage of W.
The new Fizz seems more like Fiddlesticks, and to me at least, lost his champion mindset he used to have, and definitely his playstyle. He's clunky now, and just hits R, then W's someone, and they die. Fiddles R's over a wall (like Fizz) then spams some point and clicks, they die. The whole thing that sucks about that is the need to not be seen. I get Fizz is an assassin, but Zed doesn't have to hide in a bush, or over a wall to deal full damage to someone, why should Fizz? Fizz now needs a Max range ult, and full proc'd W's to be max effective, which isn't Fizz, the slippery Fizz we used to know will now sit there and auto a guy waiting to auto cancel his W to proc it, then run away or keep going to kill. That's not slippery, it's predictable, but it works, because the risk in the high damage is worth it every time.
You can still play Fizz the old way, he still has the same spells... But you cant competitively. Now having a low E cool down doesn't really aid your damage because your W cool down resets on kills, which you'll be doing. Even if you play him exactly like you used to, his damage would be much lower, and, you'd still be left with the longer 2 sec E cool down.
One thing with his old W... I'm sure other people were able to do this too, and it wasn't due to solely how much I played, in a fight, I was always able to keep attacking until the last auto, then just either walk away, or just start recalling mid fight and let the burn do the work until the last tick of the dot killed. Fizz has a dot now, but not really, you cant judge it because it might as well not exist now.
I play fizz basically as a tank now, because he has huge ap ratios, and sticks to people still, so why bother with utilizing insane ap damage when you can have huge ap damage with most of your items being tank items, and still one shot their team due to how big the ult is.
TLDR: I know this is a long read, I think a logical way to bring the old Fizz back though would be make his Ult not scale with AP as hard as it does, bring it back to the percent magic damage increase, based on how large it is. This way, it's his old ult, feels good to animation cancel with his Q, feels great hitting far away, makes you work for your kills still, instead of just hit the ult win the fight. Make his E overloaded like it used to be, so it's risk reward, instead of get to the reward of hitting W. Keep the W if you're married to it, the lack of dot presence isn't what makes me want to ditch my loved champ, the lack of the rest of him is.
I don't really know how to close this, I just figured I'd put my 2 cents into Riot's jar. Before Fizz had his change, I had a steady spot in 3rd 4th or 5th spot as most played Fizz in the world, according to mastery points. But now I cant really stand the champ, still play him, but not solo main bring him into all 5 roles type of deal.
Please bring my old Fizzy back :(

(And I don't know how effective that is, might be overkill).
