This feels like an horrible mistake, but I am going to ask the boards for advice.
So I like playing mages and wondering whom to buy for 4800 ip, the choice is between Swain and Xerath.
And it is as simple as that; who shall i buy for 4800 ip?

I would choose Xerath but it's up to u
honestly that is for yourself to decide, both are unique in their respective playstyles and swain is arguably a "mage" when he feels more like a tank actually. If you want my advice, try finding out your playstyle first of all. Swain is a champion who loves to zone inlane and tank stuff once he hits 6, xerath has long range harrass and pokes really fking hard. so you gotta find your own balance in the choice, noone can really help you out.
Who is your main?
Its hard to say, mostly because their playstyles are completely different from one another.
Xerath has long range and decent burst potential if you can pick off an enemy with his stun. His main strength is being able to stand behind the front line lobbing high damage spells from relative safety, poking down the competition, then using them in burst combos to take down priority targets during team fights. He excels at range and damage, but his weaknesses are that all his spells are skillshot and most have high delays before the damage which makes them easy to dodge if the opponent is paying attention. He also has no escapes except for hitting a point blank stun (which has reduced stun length for hitting close targets) and trying to book it.
Swain on the other hand thrives on being in close range to enemies. controlling enemy movement with slows/roots and keeping his ult on to lay out consistent damage and live through what damage comes through to him. He also has surprising burst potential if you can lay all your spells on a single target, taking out squishies from one rotation is certainly possible since they wont be able to run from your ult either. Swain tends to play more fast and dangerous imo, winning trades his opponents don't think he can due to his kiting and heals. Problems being standing close to enemies is still rather dangerous and if you draw focus fire without being able to kite away you are likely just dead, cc and silence also hurts if you cant get your ult up as that is your main form of defense. It goes without saying, but grievous wounds is very dangerous to Swain.
So, do you want a long range poke/burst mage that stays away from direct confrontation or a mage that gets in the enemies face to control and out trade them?
